Orig 302 '71 belt size

Ok I put new pulleys on and everything appears to be same size as others.but now the belt appears to be to long.cant get the belt tight with adusting the alt out to its max. Anyone know what length its suppose to be? Do they have 1 inch shorter belt.this is what I have

They sure do. The last three digits are the length. That one is your hand is 40.5 inches. A Gates XL 7395 belt would be an inch shorter.
