Shocks

Searched around quite a bit for shocks and decided to throw some cheapies on for now. I have KYB GR2s on my 2005 4Runner, so I figured I would give them a shot on the bronco. In my searches, I found a couple of sites that claimed the Excel-G are the same as the GR2s.

After pouring through 21 pages of KYB shock specifications, I found these which match up with the specs Mark gave me for the extended and collapsed lengths of the wild horses shocks. I'm certain the wild horses shocks are built better and have better valving for offroad, but since mine will see mostly on road driving, I figure the KYB will suit me.

Wildhorses Shock 77113 Specs:
21.24 extended and a 12.92 collapsed

KYB Excel-G 343149 Specs:
21.57 extended and a 12.91 collapsed

The other nice thing is that if I don't like them, I'm only out $45, and I'm sure I can find someone with a galaxy or a corolla who wants them.

These are only for the front shocks. I have yet to figure out what I want to do for the rear. I'm running the stock height shocks in the rear for now because they aren't fully extended at rest, but I know they are too short for wheeling. The fronts were far to short to be able to still use.

In other news, I found a perfect fit for my upper radiator hose. Running a stock radiator and explorer serpentine setup on a 351w. Lots of people use the upper hose from a 69 GTO, but I wasn't able to get it to fit that well. What I did find was a Gates 22392 fit perfectly without modification.

Also, when replacing the hose, I noticed that I was down, really down, on coolant. Topped off and when I drove it next, I could let it sit idling for 10 minutes and the needle never went above 200...couldn't believe it.

That hose is a perfect fit.

I bet the coolant was low because of trapped air from when we put the engine in.;)

Picked up a set of dunlop mud rover 33x12.50r15, but one has some nicks in the side wall and they all have some nics in the bead. They do hold air though and have about 20-30% tread, except one with 70%. Paid $125.

I also have a set of 35x12.50r15 BFG A/T. All have about 20% tread, except two are worn unevenly on the inside due to a bad ball joint. They also came with aluminum bullet hole 15x10 6 lug wheels and a new BFG M/T on a steel 6 lug wagon wheel. Paid $200 for all 5.

My current tires are 32x11.50r15 BFG A/T with about 90% tread. I think I have about $225 in them.

I'll probably sell all of them and get a new set of 35x12.50 BFG M/T.

I liked that hose so much I ordered one. Napa said it is for a 1998 crown Vic with 4.6.

Installed a fire extinguisher on the front cage. Easily accessible and doesn't obstruct the view or get in the way.

Installed my twin sticks tonight. I ordered the set from JB-Fab. These sticks look GREAT! The install went relatively smoothly. I thought I could install without cutting the flags, and not have fully independent shifting, but without cutting, I only got 4wd(hi/low) and neutral. So, I went about cutting the flags. It took three hours the first night, removing the old shifter and installing the twins; and two hours the second night, removing the twins, cutting the flags and reinstalling the twins. I really am kicking myself for not doing this when I had the t-case out before. It would have taken less time to install the twins than it took to reinstall the stock shifter.

I also put the top back on to battle the cold. I'm driving it about 5 miles in the morning every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday to my workout group.

Also took this SWEET pic nearby.
