Jess thought the last few miles as he approached home what a good work week it had been, nothing serious and now a long weekend ahead. His mind drifted briefly to consider his previous life as an agent of the CIA and how things had changed since his retirement and disappearance into seclusion. He considered the benefits the Bronco vendors may have extended to him had they been aware of his contributions made to this country over his previous career that would never be known of to any but a few, those things that could never be talked about but were hard to forget.
As he pulled into the driveway Jess was struck by the beauty of his wife Lori as she bent over polishing the rims that supported those new 36's. He was impressed with the figure of his wife in her shorts and half shirt but his attention quickly turned to the wash and wax she had provided their Bronco in preparation for the weekend camping trip. The paint glistened as the sun reflected off the other great form he appreciated and had invested so much into. This would be a weekend they would both never forget and Jess was committed to making it such for the both of them.
As Jess stepped from the dusty work truck his company provided, Lori turned and approached with the smile that made every day worth what he had been through in life, doing the things that he was supposed to have forgotten, but done for not only her but everyone else he had ever known, weather they deserved it or not, he knew Lori did and was proud as he embraced her. She was so proud as well, at the work she had done on their Bronco and showed what all had been packed while she waited for his arrival after a pretty good work week herself. Now that they were both home it would soon be off to that special campground and wheeling spot, and looking good in their Bronco on the way.
Jess placed the Wilson Tactical Supergrade into his conceal carry holster after putting on his good wheeling clothes, which included his favorite classic bronco tee shirt which he left untucked to hide his faithful firearm, another great beauty he appreciated in addition to his wife and Bronco, then hollered on Lori he was ready to go. She was just finishing up getting ready herself after reviewing the take along check list they had prepared over the last month, knowing nothing had been forgotten and all necessaries were present and accounted for. She gabbed her purse and double checked for the extra magazines she had placed in their pouch next to the Ed Brown Special Forces Commander Jess had gotten her for her birthday, she again admired the special purse she had gotten for Christmas and how well it held her firearm and extras.
They jumped in the Bronco and it fired right up with the rumble they both appreciated and loved so much after all their hard work towards its complete restoration. Jess pulled out of the driveway as Lori turned on the satellite radio and they both heard the news that must be a joke, or so they both thought, maybe another Orson Wells type thing but a good one concerning man eating zombies this time, what a hoot to hear on their way to the primitive wilds they had been looking forward to seeing once again for so long. Jess turned the radio off so as not to spook Lori knowing such prank stuff could end up making her nervous later tonight as they sat around a romantic campfire, and engaged her in conversation as they drove towards destiny.

Jess and Lori were both amazed how little their special camping spot had changed since the last time they were out there, the woods were a little more dense and the trail to get out there was a little more narrow, overgrown with low hanging limbs at places that made some of the trail look like a tunnel, but it was everything they had remembered and more. Lori commented on where the others they were meeting might be and hoped they had not gotten lost navigating the trail system to this particular place. Jess reminded her the others were experts in the woods and wilds as was he and not to worry, but couldn't help thinking about the things that had happened in his previous career near this spot and how he was supposed to have forgotten, as he put the finishing touches on their camp spot and sat down next to Lori on the log he had fashioned into a bench seat with their hatchet.
It was Lori who first noticed what appeared to be headlights shinning towards them from the next ridge, but also appeared to be stationary as it began to get dark. Jess got out the binoculars and from what he could tell they were round headlights, that looked like a Bronco's and could be their friends Jackson and Sara they had been expecting. They watched as the lights became dimmer and Jess thought it could be the headlights of a stuck jeep instead of a Bronco and commented to Lori that it may also just be other campers who had left their lights on as well. Lori suggested they turn on the CB and listen for distress in case help was needed which he did, but nothing was heard except static as squelch was adjusted.
Jess returned to their bench seat log and put his arm around Lori, she leaned into him and snuggled as they admired the fire she had started while he was searching for contact on the CB with the owner of now almost completely dimmed headlights off on the horizon. Jess thought it strange Jackson and Sara had not yet arrived but also knew they were prone to be late in getting started on such adventure, but also knew Jackson was capable in caring for himself after all they had been through together in his previous career, but had an uneasy feeling just the same. Jess turned to face Lori and gave her a kiss but quickly opened his eyes as he was brought to attention by a sound in the distance. Lori had a startled look to her face that evidenced to Jess she had heard what he had as well, they both now listened intensely to what sounded like an anguished screaming type sound off in the distance towards where the dimming headlights had been which were no longer visible.

Lori was again the first to notice what appeared to be lightning off in the distance and over the ridge in the opposite direction from where the headlights had been, bringing this to Jess's attention as they both heard what sounded like delayed booming sounds after each, if it was, lightning strikes. Jess went back to the Bronco and turned on the satellite radio to check weather conditions and again heard the same Orson Wells type story relayed as news about man eating zombies, there was no time for this kind of stuff when friends were missing, wild weather approaching, and someone possibly stuck off in the distance, but he listened anyway. Lori came to the truck to listen as well and put her purse over her shoulder for the added security its contents would provide. They listened together to the story being told that something had happened, the unbelievable, and an all out conflict between what would normally be interpreted as imagination and was being presented as reality, but could not be true.
The screaming sounds from off in the distance were now more distinct and louder than they had been before, as they appeared to be coming closer, but there was still plenty of distance between those sounds and their camp site. They continued to listen as the radio was alarming a zombie attack had occurred across much of the southwest after an invasion from the south overcoming our border patrol, fencing and other efforts to stop a previous concern over illegal immigration. The radio broadcast an air strike effort in the direction the lightning strikes had been observed, but that problems existed in the direction where the headlights had been seen and were now gone, replaced by only the screaming sounds which were coming closer and closer. Jess and Lori both took into hand their firearms from concealment as this no longer appeared to be a broadcast joke, but instead a weekend they would never forget.

Okay, now comes the fun part
If you wish to add to the story just jump right in there and add what you would like. Then someone else can build upon that, and I will add as well when I have time.
Just keep in mind this is a Bronco zombie action story and keep it going in that direction.

jess knows it's camping etiquette so he leads lori into the dark, towards the stranded vehicle. they stagger clumsily through the dark... trying to make their way towards the ever-dimming headlights. about halfway to the lights the screaming stops. jess and lori's eyes meet... the DJ's voice is blaring on the radio behind them, the dead silence and dimming headlights are ahead of them. jess glares at lori... she knows what to expect. both draw their arms and approach the yellow lights. hammers cocked, the couple moves toward the dim light that's flooding the campsite. everything looks normal... outside of the fact that the round headlights came from a jeep liberty with leather seats. the camp site is in pristine shape. the couple waits in silence for a minute... no sound... not a peep. finally jess motions lori to move out of the light. she backs slowly towards the cab. waiting. -- jess holsters his weapon and calls out to the darkness... "do you need help?" the words seem to be absorbed by the darkness. jess stands still and listens for the slightest sound... off in the distance a twig snaps. lori aims her pistol towards the sound while jess starts walking towards the commotion... demanding someone to speak up if they were out there. nobody responds... all he hears is the slow sound of feet dragging through the dirt.

The slow sound of dragging feet turns instantly to a pulse quickening gallop and something that looks like a Jeep driving yuppie except for the gore streaming from its screaming mouth leaps upon Lori! Her gun is thrown to the ground. Jess aims for the Polo horse on the breast of the creature's shirt and fires. He makes a direct hit, but it keeps trying to rip out Lori's throat.
"Braaaaaiiiins," it moans. "Liiiiivvve braaaaains...."
"Aim for the head, Aim for the head!!!" Jackson and Sara come running out of nowhere! "Jess! Shoot him in the head!"
Jess draws and CLICK, his pistol jams! Jackson slides over the Jeep's hood, Bo Duke style, and in one quick motion decapitates the creature with a machete. He looks at Jess and tells him, "Blades don't jam, nor do they need reloading."
Lori is shaken and bewildered, and slowly stands up. "Jackson! Sara! We've been worried! What the HELL WAS THAT?!"
Jackson begins to tell her their story, but before he can get too far he notices a bleeding wound on Lori's arm.
"That guy BIT me," she whines. And before she can say another word, Jackson hacks off her bitten arm. Lori stares at the stump, unable to believe what has happened. Jess leaps at Jackson, screaming, but Sara holds him back. Jackson hacks off Lori's other arm and finally her head.
"You've got 5 minutes to kill An Infected before they start going after your brains."

“Is…is she dead?” asked Jess
“What do you think?” said Jackson as wiped the blood from his blade on what was left of Lori. Jackson laughed to himself as he kicked Lori’s body in the butt “What a waste of a good ass.” he thought. “Jess!...let’s get going man. We don’t have much time. Grab what you can and take us back to your camp site. I have a feeling there might be one pissed off zombie in Prada with a taste for brains roaming around.”
“Zom…what?” said Jess
“Here” said Jackson as he shoved a green duffel bag into Jess’s chest.
With that, Jackson, Sara and Jess made their way back to Jess’s camp site. The three could hear something moaning off in the woods. Not knowing how many were lurking out there , they chose to continue there run to camp. As soon as they found the camp site they loaded up the essentials into the Bronco and took off out of camp.
“Now what?” Sara said sobbing “Where do we go? What now?”
It was if someone, somewhere heard Sara’s sad questions.
“Attention!” the radio crackled “ It’s hard for us here to decribe what is happening in the lower southern states, but it seems that a mass of un-dead have started to spread over the boarder from Mexico. At this point the Government is stating to move forces into Nebraska. From there the Military will start to stage it’s attack. At this point the President has stated nothing will make it past the Oklahoma/Kansas border. And that he is willing to lose Oklahoma to a nuclear strike if need be. That is the WORSE case scenario as we have been told. We urge everyone to stay indoors and keep all doors locked. We will keep you updated as things progress”
“Jesus…Oklahoma? I guess it could be worse. No one likes Oklahoma anyway. Shit! we are going to need gas pretty soon” said Jackson.
“Just turn if off Jackson. I can’t listen to that anymore. Why wont they tell us what to do? “ said Sara “Look! there is a station, pull over, their lights are still on”
Jackson quickly down shifted the 5 speed and turned into the gas station. As quickly as he pulled up to one of the two gas pumps, Sara jumped out of the car and ran for the phone booth. “Sara! Wait!...Damn it! Jackson she took my gun with her”.
“Here Jess…Take Sara’s hatchet. Blades don’t need reloading after all. I’m going to go inside and see if anyone is still alive ‘round here. You just make sure this baby has enough gas to get us the hell out of here”
“Hello? Anybody in here?”
Taking a long look around the small station Jackson noticed the place had already been looted. He kicked a smashed bag of ding dongs across the floor. “Damn…they even took the moon pies”
“JACKSON!!”
Quickly he ran out the door to find Jess backing away from what looked like the gas station clerk “ Listen Abdul…I…I don’t want to have any problems here. I was going to pay for the gas I swear…I…I…”
“TAKE HIS HEAD!” yelled Jackson
Jess’s eyes squeezed together, he bit his bottom lip and swung his hatchet at the zombie closing in on him. The hatchet hit it’s mark and buried deep into the Zombie’s neck. Almost taking it’s head clear of. The zombie's head now flopped to the side with only a little bit of muscle holding it on. Jess jumped back in fear, not wanting to go back for the hatchet. As he backed up he heard the swooshing sound of something cutting through the thin air. There stood Jackson, his chest puffing in and out and his blade covered in the blood of the un-dead.
With out any time to even think about what just happened a muffled scream came from the direction of the phone booth. “Sara!!! Hold on baby..I’m coming. Get the hatchet Jess“
There was Sara stuck inside the phone booth surrounded by 5 zombies, as many more filed out of the woods around the gas station. Quickly, Jackson and Jess jumped into action. Jackson was hacking his way towards Sara, while Jess swung wildly into the air. Swing after swing, Jackson’s blade and Jess’s hatchet began to lose their cutting edge. The hacking was starting to take a toll on Jackson and Jess. Swinging their weapons now felt like they were swinging sand bags, and they cut about as well as one, too. The zombies finally had the men surrounded. There they stood back to back, the zombies slowly dragging their feet, getting ready for the meal they have been searching for.
“Damn it Jackson!…You know I would much rather have a gun right now. You might have to reload, but at least bullets don’t lose their cutting edge”

The sharp piercing sound of small arms fire broke the relative silence of the approaching zombies as Sara opens fire from inside the phone booth with the gun she had taken from Jess, shattering out the glass that was her only remaining protection from the persistant beasts. Jackson and Jess quickly drop to the ground as Sara unloads the rounds into the first of the creatures that surrounded the men. The pop of the pistol draws the attention of the undead away from the men just long enough for them to get off a few swift swings of their ever dulling blades. As only a split second oppurtunity presents itself Jackson grabs Sara by the wrist and the trio make a dash for their trusty steed. As they frantically scramble into the rig Jess hears the pump nozzle click....we're full he shouts!! Firing up the Bronco with a roar he doesn't even bother to remove the nozzle from the truck, jams it into gear and dumps the clutch. As the truck screams through the rpms it rips the fuel hose off the pump spraying fuel into the air and onto the drivers side of the dual exhaust, igniting it into a huge ball of fire. Never looking back the group speeds out of the parking lot onto the dark wooded roads. A large explosion is heard behind the truck and the night is lit by the fire of the gas pump exploding. In the glow of the fire and the headlights of the truck they see more zombies stumbling out of the woods and into the road. Jackson yells to Jess "don't even slow down....hit'em if they get in the way". Sara speaks up "how far will 23 gallons get us Jess?'' Jess does not reply as he focuses on driving a fast as he can. Little do they know that in their haste in leaving the gas station, when they ripped the nozzle loose that it had split the rubber hose from the bottom of the filler neck leading to the fuel tank. As they speed into the dark night of the forest they are leaving a trail of fuel in their wake.

An uneasy silence falls over the trio as they make their way through the dark, narrow and winding roads of the dense forest. Only the dull rumble of the engine and the subtle whistles of wind through the rolled up windows echo inside the cab. A long stretch of road that is all too uneventful considering what had just happened to them. Jess finally breaks the silence by switching on the radio.
"U.S. military forces have begun their defense of the midwestern United States" a solemn voice speaks through the air waves. "This is a battle that has begun to reach epic porportion, the numbers of the undead that are being reported by military officials are staggering, it seem there is no place to hide"
"My God, Jackson what the hell is going on" a now trembling Sara asks out loud. "I don't know hun but something tell me we are going to find out" Jackson replies. Jess reaches his hand out across the cab in the direction of Jackson handing him his gun. "Fix it" he says sternly "we're gonna need it". Jess looks at Sara and tells her to get purse that he had given to Lori out of the backseat. "We need the clips that she has in there....we're gonna need everything we can get our hands on"
Suddenly Sara and Jackson are thrust forward as Jess slams on the brakes and locks up the tires. "What the...." Jackson exclaims. As the trucks comes to a stop and the headlights reach into the darkness they see what is left of a full size white SUV on its side in the middle of the two lane road completely blocking the road. The SUV is badly damaged on the front and the hood appears to be covered in blood. There is no sign of life or movement in the vehicle only a ever dimming dome light. The front winshield is pushed out as if someone had attempted to get out after the wreck....or was it to get in?
"What do we do now?" Sara wispers knowing they can't go back the way they came. "We move it out of the way and keep going" Jackson says as the sound of the stuck shell casing rattles to the floorboard. "Get in the glovebox and get me the winch controller" Jess demands "We gotta get this thing moved fast, because who knows where the passengers of that thing are at.... Jackson, plug in the whip and find something to hook the cable up to, then get back to the truck as fast as you can. I'll do the rest"
Jackson slowly steps from the Bronco almost as if he were trying to sneak out without making a sound. He stuffs Jess's gun into the small of his back and proceeds to the front of the truck. "Good thing he got these new bumpers and winch put in, those old stockers just wouldn't have handled this" Jackson half heartedly jokes under his breath trying to ease his escilating tension. As he turns his back to the wreck and squats down to plug in the whip, he hears a sound that makes his blood run cold...........
