New 9" BB housing, prblm w/ Ends, please help

I'm replacing my factory BB 9" housing with a new SpiderTrax housing. I had them weld on the ends as per EB BB 9" specs. I ran into a snag with the ends when I was putting everything together.

This is the factory housing/end with the axle shaft bearing race still in it, notice it's pretty much flush with the outer face of the end.

This is my new housing/end. Notice the bearing race is inset a good 5/8 of an inch or so.

This makes it so the spacer ring on the outside of the seal doesn't hold everything in tight when the retainer plate is bolted on. It also makes it so bolt heads of my lugs hit my brake caliper bracket.

What can I do about this. About the only thing I can think of is have some spacers machined to space that race out.... but then will my shafts not engage enough in the carrier?

Arrrggghh.

Edit: I just measured the old housing compared to the new housing. I did this before I had them build it, so I could give them a definite end to end measurement. The new housing is like 3/8" longer than the factory one, how they did that, I don't know. What that means to me though, I should be able to space those races out and be okay. There would only be ~3/16" less engagement each side in the carrier than the factory housing.

The ends are visibly different from the outside. The spidertrax one is obviously longer/deeper. Am I missing something obvious?

I would contact Spidertrax. If what you are saying is correct, you may not have recieved what you paid for....

3/8" probably isn't going to keep the shafts from engaging enough in the carrier. Take some measurements and see. As long as they do then you could have the spacers machined and do it that way. I would definately contact SpiderTrax though and get them to at least refund part of it and pay for whatever machining needs to be done since those do not match BB EB ends. (It looks like you could almost fit 2 races in there) Do this before you do anything else though since it will make it harder to get them to make it right once you start having work done on it.

You might also check on local shops with the right tooling to weld new ends on. It will probably be cheaper and faster to get a local shop to put the correct ends on than to ship it back. Again if you do this try to get them to agree to pay for it if you do.

A lot will depend upon what you are willing to accept. If your willing to accept just using spacers then they will probably work. If you want it corrected properly then there is no reason they should not fix it since it isn't right unless there was a mixup with the order itself where you told them to do it this way.
