There's a full-page ad in a recent off-road mag (can't remember which - it's on the back of my toilet right now) for DOT-approved street-legal multi-piece rims, with a run-flat option.

Yes, they're beadlocks and they're DOT compliant due to their design. Hutchinson makes DOT compliant beadlocks as well, so they do exist, just not in the typical racing form that most people associate with "beadlocks". I'm toying with the idea of running some 17x9 Hutchinsons, but they're crazy $$$

Did you know that 95% of all statistics are made up on the spot?

i just searched california vehicle codes, nothing.

here's the pirate discussion;
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/archi.../t-363606.html

but there IS now a DOT legal beadlock;
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=193702
http://www.high-impact.net/wheels/do..._beadlocks.htm

bottom of this page, it states "there is no law stating it's illegal to run a non DOT approved wheel on the street"
http://www.wt4x4.net/tech/beadlock.htm

but this website explains different
http://liftlaws.com/are_beadlocks_street_legal.htm

Well I guess the debate continues! But it sounds like it's sometimes being enforced if 1970Mule was almost ticketed.

I talked with a SJPD officer yesterday and he said that the commercial officer would be the one to ticked for bead locks if they were in an unsafe condition and even then the code would be a broad unsafe vehicle.

I look at this as a 50 different people with 50 different answers situation.

Utah is pretty shitty with some of their law enforcement. If you read a little lower on that PDF, it goes into tire size & other stuff. Like the "Tire tread is not fully covered by the existing fenders or fender extenders". I look at mine with a set of UFO flares from Duff, a set of 33x12.5 tires on 10" rims & according to that, I am illegal. My cousin got pulled over last year headed to Moab for having his tires 1/2" outside of his flares and no mud flaps on a minimally modified Jeep. The Utah state patrol told him to turn around and head back to Colorado because if he kept going he was going to get a ticket & his rig was going to be impounded.

That PDF also says (p. 38) that a GVW of 4500, the frame height is a max of 24" I just checked & I am at 23" with roughly 4" of suspension lift & 33s that actually measure 31.4". Now if I get new shoes that are a 35, that is going to put me in the illegal range again.

You can read through that thing and find all kinds of stuff that puts the majority of everyone on this board in the illegal range, or failed inspection range. Hell, I know that I have at least 4 failing grades in Utah right now.
