How to identify a 3g alternator?

I do not know what to say as far as how to ID a 3G but can tell you that they are on the 3.8 liter Taurus. I dont know anout MN but they are plentiful in the U jerk Yards here in California. I am very happy with my brand new second hand one from my local yard.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never seen a 3G with the fan on the outside.

I've never seen one either - rule of thumb, if it's a Taurus and the alternator is on top, it's a 3G. You can pull them in less then 5 minutes...
