Have You Seen This '68? - Reward

OK -- I tried this several years back, but the internet is bigger and badder -- and I've got pics this time! (thanks Jon!). So here's the deal -

This is a 1968 Bronco - VIN# is U15NLC62951. I bought it in 1974, and it was my first car. As you can see, it was even my escape vehicle for my wedding 22 yrs ago. My wife married me BECAUSE of my Bronco, not in spite of it! That's why we're still together! When she told me she was "with child" in 1987, I freaked out and sold her. It was purchased by a guy driving a shiney new white cadillac, for his 16 yr old son. He paid with a wad of $100 bills. Best I can remember, it was headin' for Arkansas.

A couple of distinquishing features --
Green hood (if you own an EB, you don't have to ask!)
Hand painted pin stripping
Custom convered seats
Big o'l freakin' Warn with a Big o'l freakin' bumper on front
Hurst 3 spd shifter on the floor
289 that ran like a spotted assed ape!

OK - so what's the point? Well, I'm no longer a poor E5 in the few, the proud. I've got a little disposable cash, and would LOVE the opportunity to buy this truck back. If you get me in touch with the current owner, then I'll give you $100. If I can convince them to sell it to me, I'll give you a $250 more --- I know I can't force someone to sell me their truck, but I'll be willing to make an offer that anyone would consider fair. Only the first guy to get me in contact with the current owner gets the $$.

Here's some pics of my dorky groomsmen before we leave for our 1 day honeymoon (got emergency orders to the East Coast 10hrs after the wedding!) -- it's the only pics I have of the truck -- the last pic is me(much younger) and my bride(still just as beautiful) -- I threw that in there to make you feel sorry for me..it's a pitiful plea for help! And I don't want to hear ANY B.S. about hair cuts etc..it was the freakin' 80's, man!

Well, here's to hoping you find it.

And here's to hoping the current owner has a different slogan under his avatar than you do...

Because you know what the VIN number is, why don't you just do a car fax on it? I think you just need the vin number to get a complete history. I'm not sure if it will give you the owners name but it should let you know where its registered so it would give you a place to start.

I'm not sure if carfax goes back to the 60's but its worth a try.

Damn...I really hope you find that. I am looking for my dad's '76 here but cant find the vin #....so it will probubly be damn near impossible. He sold it to a guy while I was in Germany!!!! I really wanted that thing. Since it was sold locally, I was told if I had a vin # I could track it through the DMV. Hopefully, one day my Mom or Dad will come across an old piece of paper with the vin #

Best of Luck!!!!

I did not know then, how much was ended. When i look back now from this high hill of my old age, I can still see the butchered women and children lying heaped and scattered all along the crooked gulch as plain as when I saw them with eyes still young. And I can see that something else died there in the bloody mud, and was buried in the blizzard. A peoples dream died there. It was a beautiful dream. ~ Chief Black Elk, Oglalla Lakota (On Wounded Knee)

Good luck on your search...how cool would that be if it was found. Have a very busy week but I will do my part and use my resources to see what I can drum up.

If you think it went to AK, why not hire a PI to query state DMV records?

Carfax doesnt go back that far. I got the VIN off of mine before I purchased it, hoping to be able to look it up, I signed up, but was not able to. Carfax doesnt accept letters in the vin number. Best of luck with the search. I agree with JR, hire a PI, they will have access to this stuff. You might even be able to find a site online that will let you search VIN records.

I have some access to DMV stuff as a licensed PI. Searched the following states with no luck. I don't have access to any other records from Baghdad--sorry:

Colorado DMV
Florida DMV
Idaho DMV
Iowa DMV
Kentucky DMV
Maine DMV
Minnesota DMV
Mississippi DMV
Missouri DMV
Nebraska DMV
North Carolina DMV
Ohio DMV
Oregon DMV
Tennessee DMV
Texas DMV
Utah DMV
Wisconsin DMV
Wyoming DMV

I would also recommend hiring a PI to run a National VIN check. Probably would only cost $40 or so. I would do it for you if I was back in Texas. Good luck.

MP - did you seriously do that from Bagdad?

I'm not tryin' to be all mushy, but when I read your post and thought about it, I got a little shakey -- thinkin' about a guy in harms way takin' time to help me with somethin' so trivial is an amazing thing. Thanks amigo -- for doin' the search,,, but mainly for steppin' up to the plate for all of us.

Coachbarnes-

Its no problem. I have better internet access than most. The resource I used is not perfect, not to mention VIN searches are not that easy. If the spacing is off, or if the DMV lady punched in an l instead of a 1 for example, they can be tought to find.

Good luck with the race Bronco. I have the same dream. Maybe I could prerun for you when I get back, although I will be located in Austin instead of Dallas.

And good luck with the search. I would like to find my Dad's old Bronco, but all I have is a black and white photo--no VIN.
