DO I have to use the split oil pan gasket?

The engine code is D4A which I have found on this forum to be 1974.

I am thinking I do have to, but what is the difference between the castings that would not allow me to use the 1 piece gasket?

Thanks
Martin

I run a 1 piece oil pan gasket on my '70 block. I don't think there are any changes to the block in regards to the oil pan gasket except maybe for the '83 and up with the dipstick in the block. But I think that isn't even an issue.
