Are those 76/77 axle shafts? I ask because that just looks like a huge distance between the backing plate and the drum mounting flange.
Like it has really thick shoes and drums waiting to go on.

Hi Paul, you got me wondering. So after the trick or treater traffic died down. I went out a test fitted the drums. When mounted. The backing plates enter the groove on the drums to about 3/16 of an inch. The drum groove is close 9/16 deep. I hope this is correct. The purchased the 31 spline shafts from Tom's Bronco Parts well over a year ago.

Looks perfectly fine with the drum installed. Just did not look right when it was just sticking out in space like that without the drum.

Thanks Paul. And I forgot to mention that the 9" is a 76, HD axle with 2.25 x 11.0" brakes.

I had the afternoon free. So I began test fitting the rear axle sway bar and the James Duff torque tamer. Can't drill any of the end link or cross member mounting hole in the frame. Until the full weight of the vehicle is on the axle. Test fitting allows me to see where things will be, so I can run the break and fuel lines.

love love love those slots. Coming together. Rolling chassis is a great feeling I'm sure. If I ever get settled where I'm gonna live out the old age, I may have to start ground up too

Thanks Dave. It's a lot of work but very satisfying when you complete each step.

I was moving the new engine around on the engine stand tonight. When I heard something fall inside the oil pan. So I pulled the pan and I found a spare bolt in the pan. It looks to be an external bolt because the head has some old ford blue paint on it. Good thing I found it now.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Well this week hasn't gone to plan. The wife and I were to leave last Saturday, to spend the week at our daughters home for the holiday. But at the last minute they came down with Covid. So the trip was canceled. All is not lost though. I still have the time off and I am putting it to good use.
Monday was spent cleaning up and painting old parts. And yesterday, I set the engine and transmission in the frame.
