I Have a newly rebuilt 302 with a holly 2300 500 cfm carburetor from wild horses. Is there any reason the original air filter can't be used on this. DISCLAIMER: I'm not much of a mechanic! Love the look, but not sure about the vacuum lines, that metal flapper with spring on one end?? Connection from oil cap.....

The air filter housing should fit right on top of the Holley unless there is some appendage or another that might require a small spacer? Other than that though, the diameter of the gasket surface and the location of the stud hole should match perfectly. Most carbs are the same way.

What year model is this for? Looks like an early (pre-'73) model. Correct?
If so there are no real vacuum lines. Just a clean air return for the PCV system (pretty important) and a vent fitting for the charcoal canister on '70-'72 models.

I have a 72 sport explorer. Where would the canister be located? Thanks for the info!

The original canister was a round can with a rock shield, mounted to the outside of the passenger side frame rail just behind the front wheel.
One small hose was connected to the gas tanks via the condensing tank behind the driver shoulder.
One of the large fittings had a hose extending up into the engine compartment, where it had a plastic reinforcing ring to keep it from closing.
The second large hose went up to a fitting on the side of the air filter housing.
