Sanderson shorty P headers, no gasket???

Instructions say to only use permatex gasket maker. I'm having a hard time believing this.


Anyone have some insight?

Sure. For me its either that or the dead-soft copper gaskets.

Works great. Have yet to have a header leak with a Sanderson product installed with RTV

I would of assumed it would burn up from the heat.

I would personally opt for the higher temperature rated versions myself. Something more than just regular RTV I would think.
But the truth is in the pudding, so to speak. If they are not leaking with the regular stuff, they’re probably not gonna leak while using nothing either.
Many (most?) factory cast exhaust manifolds did not use gaskets.

Regular ultra black rtv. Currently know a set running since 2008 without being so much as retorqued. 30 years ago they had you use red high temp, somewhere along the way it went to ultra black. Don’t over think it, follow the instructions and be done, you won’t regret it.

Odd, the Sanderson P Header exhaust kit from the old BroncoHut came with a set of crappy thin paper gaskets and I opted for the “upgraded“ thick soft set that Melissa recommended at the time. Nothing at that time mentioned using RTV instead of gaskets…

Common practice by their distributors, they believe not supplying a gasket is half ass when in reality supplying gaskets are just that when they are not needed.
