Soved it Thanks for the feedback. The seal is very thin but I guess I just couldn't generate enough force with my fingers A bit of pressure on the lock cylinder with a large c-Clamp compressed the seal enough to seat the clip.

Rear end ratio for drivability So my rear end (4.11) is binding. For 95% road driving, is there any advantage to changing the ratio during a rebuild or swap out? Not so concerned about MPG itself. It has a 302 bored out 30/1000s, 4 BBL carburetor, 3 speed manual. Thanks

Thanks DirtDonk. I actually saw the gearing. It didn't look too bad to me, but having never experienced a read rend failure nor rebuilt one myself, couldn't rate it on a scale of 1-10. I'm going to run it until there is no doubt it needs replacing. By then I'll have a bit of $$ saved up...

Thanks guys. I was leaning that way but wanted a second, third and 4th opinion. Definitely would like to take my time and make sure I select the correct upgrade, gear ratio etc.. when it's absolutely necessary to replace it. Who knows, by then I might have a 5 speed swap

Mark, are your running the Bilstein 5100 Series Shock Absorber? Since my truck has been sitting in a garage for 20 years, should I also consider new springs?
