Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

Yes, these are 1996 F350 brakes (very similar to the next gen Super Duty brakes). The ends of the brake pads ride on a stainless shim on the caliper hanger. I took just a bit off the ends of the pads where they ride on the shim/caliper hanger. https://photos.app.goo.gl/pXy8z27sQjUKZRRS8 I...

Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

The front pads were hanging up and not retracting. I followed advice I got on a FB post to check the sliding surfaces on the brake pad backing plates. It wasn't obvious but when I took a file to the ends of the backing plates it showed that they weren't cut cleanly. I filed off just a bit until...

Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

170 was after arriving home after normal driving for 10+ minutes after heavy braking/bedding. Some highway miles and a few mellow intown stop signs and pulling into my shop. Yes they are floating calipers, both new, greased, etc. I don't remember the pistons extending after pushing them...

Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

@nvrstuk Your comment on possibly glazing the front pads got me thinking. When I first assembled the axle and brakes, I noticed the front pads dragged more than expected. Hub spins freely until pads/calipers are installed. I'm now worried there is something hanging up my front brakes. Is...

    I didn't either until recently.

Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

There are 2 "Eldo" calipers. The 76-78 Eldo are larger (7" pin spread, 2.5" caliper piston) and match/replace JD6 & JD7 front brake calipers. These work on the typical "1-ton disk brake swap kits" like Lugnut4x4, Ruffstuff, etc. This is what I'm going to use. 79+ Eldo calipers are smaller...

Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

I didn't think of the front pads glazing. I'll have to take it apart and look. I don't *think* I did anything to glaze them. New pads, rotors and new (not rebuilt) calipers. If anything I might have glazed the rear pads, on the first drive I realized I had the line lock closed on the rears...

    New brake kits

So I pulled my JD6 calipers off and test fit the Eldo calipers last night so I can measure/order brake lines. My current rear pads are GH rated. So my bias is even worse than your calcs. I don't know what my fronts are, I can't see the rating and haven't pulled the calipers to check, but my...

Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

I'm using the Wilwood prop valve set at maximum reduction. It says it's able to reduce the rears by 72%, the most on the market. I know the rear is lifting under braking, causing the rears to lock up. I can lock the rears before the fronts on pavement. It is at low speed, with intentional...

Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

I've swapped lines with no changes. From what I've read almost all MCs are 50/50 with proportioning done outside the MC. But I've never found a definitive answer to that matter. I've been reading, posting, changing things on my truck for months on this issue. I really didn't want to change...

Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

I can't get my fronts to lock up, rears always lock first. 37's and hboost. My mc is too big (1.5") with a Wilwood apv. I'll be downsizing the MC (1-5/16"). That will give me a little softer/longer pedal but won't change my bias.

Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

These are the metric calipers, they don't fit the brackets or rotors I'm running. I'm hoping to not reinvent my whole rear brake set up. I'm not sure there is a rotor that will fit those calipers and my 14b hubs. I am and I'm still locking up the rear brakes (under very hard emergency style...

Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

Thanks for the first hand experience. I didn't give it any thought till I read the instructions that came with my calipers. I started to think I had wasted the money on the calipers and they weren't going to work or would need constant adjustment because I don't have p-brake cables. I'm...

Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

I have a line lock for my p-brake. I can't really route a p-brake cable. My problem isn't with the p-brake, I need a smaller caliper and the Eldo caliper with the p-brake is the only smaller caliper that will work with my brackets and rotors.

Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

Yes I've already bought them. I have no way to run a brake cable to them. The caliper choices that fit the brackets and rotors I have are 2.5" for the 76-78 Eldo w/parking brake, 2.93" JD6, and 3.15" JD7. I'm running the 2.93" ones and they lock up before my fronts.

    New brake kits

I tried, but was quickly stopped in my tracks. The Eldo caliper uses a 7/16" banjo bolt, the JB/JD6 calipers use a 10mm so my brake hoses won't fit. I'm running custom hoses from Crown Performance so it will take a couple weeks to get new ones made. I did post a couple questions about the...

Eldo calipers without using the e-brake

I'm replacing my rear JD/JB6 calipers (3") with 76-78 Eldo calipers(2.5"). I won't be using the e-brake function. I just need a smaller piston caliper to fix brake bias issues. A few questions: Will I need to adjust anything or will they act like a normal caliper piston if I don't use the...

    New brake kits

Unfortunately I haven't done anything. I didn't want to tear into it before Super Cel in NV. This week I had other priorities. Now I'm leaving town for 2 weeks for work. So it's going to be a little while still. I'll be sure to report back. All the parts are sitting on the shelf, just waiting.

    New brake kits

I really appreciate the info you've provided and calculations on my Frankenstien set up. I have another EB to upgrade to disk fronts soon, but it will remain on stock 15" wheels. I have everything accumulated to do an F150 knuckle swap. It' will be a stockish patina LUBR so I'm not going to...

    New brake kits

Thanks, that's awesome info. How would a proportioning valve work into the equation? I'm guessing your numbers are max without a prop valve and I could turn down from there. I'm going to move forward with swapping to the Eldo rears and change the rear pads only if I can't get a good...
