Holley 1850 -2 Rebuild, Low MPG

Transfer slots set up properly? My 600 barely takes 1/2 on idle screws mine also acted like this when the bass check ball retainer came lose in the accelerator pump housing… run good till you hit the throttle then would die.

    SOLD Passenger front axles D44

Did a number on mine this weekend… snapped the joint and bent the ears on the inner and outer axle shafts. Never done this project but I’ve got factory limited slip and drum brakes up front if that matters…

When is too little not enough?

Mine sat 15 years and fire right up after cleaning the points and feeding the carb. of course all the hoses, belts, brakes, tires… etc needed to be replaced but it still fired up right I don’t where it’ll ruin it but as you already know maintenance items will compound if left too long.

    Is EFI worth it?

You aren’t running points by any chance? The cheapest pertronix under the cap upgrade completely changed the game on starting & running for me.

Survey: What are the best modifications you enjoy the most and what do you wish you had done when you restored your early bronco?

Ditching points for the basic pertronix ignition made starting like a new car made it much more enjoyable to hop in and go but by far the one I enjoy the most is new seats.

    Running rough on start up

Nice fix little trick I used to read all the plugs collectively was just a 2x4 drilled with 8 holes and marked each plug’s porcelain with a sharpie the cylinder number. Made it much easier moving them all to the good light!

Removing the hardtop for the first time

The more people the better. We just took mine off with 2 total and it was a chore lifting it off. 45 minutes start to finish not terrible but an extra hand sure would have been nice going over the spare tire and wiper motor.

    MS Classic fender flares

Does anyone have a set old flares laying around the shop? All 4 of mine are busted and the front ones would need to get cut toward the front bumper where pop was clearing gumbo wide mudders in the 80’s Smooth only no pockets…running skinny tires and not looking for a wide flare. Appreciate...

I've got the standard 1850-2 vacuum secondaries 600cfm and run 62F 68R jets to get a light soot on the plugs 28 size squirter 6.5 PV 20 degrees is a lot of initial... I run 10 degrees and timed vacuum port for the dizzy. Are you transfer slots set to a square?

    T/A470 Tuning Advice

Mine did this from too much pump shot. Bandaided with the pink cam till smaller squirted came in. Plugs look good just fat when hammering the throttle Also the check valve under the squirter could not be seated completely giving a momentary lean spot. I tried opposite ends of the cam specs...

    Holley carb issue

Great work! Glad you got it done.

    Holley carb issue

Mine would flood like that when the accelerator pump ball/diaphragm let loose. Fixed that and quit the draining of fuel bowls

    Holley carb issue

Tap the bowls with the back of a screw driver to possibly free up whatever is stuck. Holley is easy to take a part just tighten everything up in steps. I use a nutdriver so I don't warp anything by over tightening. They sell the rebuild kits at the large auto parts stores if you tear any gaskets.

    Carb heat soak ideas

Cured mine with some amazon heat sleeve on the fuel lines inside the engine compartment, 1 inch spacer, removing pressure regulator (stock pump) and a smaller air cleaner — went from 14 down to a 9in. Wanted to go with return line but I have two tanks seemed like a headache
