Ok so before you guys roast me I know this is not a 66 lift gate (so if you know of anyone that has one hit me up I would be interested) but this is what I have so I am going to use it unless I find a different one. That being said what is this that I have the arrow pointing at? maybe I have just never paid attention to it but I have no idea. Thanks for the info.

That's where the striker sticks up from the tailgate so you cant open the tailgate without the liftgate up, I guess since there is no lock on tailgate itself.

Are the guts different on the lift gates or can they be purchased?

I know the spider gear is different, and since the lock isn't in the handle, I would assume the rods are different too.

Is that a Honda or Yamaha workbench? ;D

yes the 66 stuff has bit me on the butt many times, even had my hardtop painted and everything before I realized it was a later top...will now likely sell to another member %)

Ohh crap! I have a later too as well I’m pretty sure. The one that came with my 66 was in bad shape. So your telling me that only a 66 top will work. I can’t modify the one I have to fit???? This day is turning out bad!!

Any year top will fit, but the bracing is bolted on vs welded on in the other years. If you're wanting to 66 correct there is a difference, otherwise there's no issue with the fit.

yes like he said ^^^ your top will fit just fine, selling mine because 1) it's not 66-correct 2) tired of taking the hard top on/off and especially don't want to on an EB with new paint, and 3) I have a lead on a very old soft top that would be at least near period correct, so that's my plan

Well took some pics of my top and sent them to Nick at Northeast Classic Ford parts and he confirmed that my top is either a 66 or 67 so I feel better. Now I just need to piece together a lift gate.

Yes you can see the bows/braces are bolted on instead of welded.
