Got home from a ski weekend to find a care package on the steps. When I first opened it, I thought someone had sent me a brain. The one I have is pretty much a low mileage one owner that has had little use .Turns out, it's the nos Mustang front bumperettes. Nice and shiny, but maybe too long and skinny. Hmmm..... more pondering as Ken wastes away. Maybe I'll flip a coin...

Well, like it sez in the Good Book, one thing begets another and another and and another….. And I’ve been betgettin’ here for quite a while now. Did a little bit ‘o’ thinkin’ and figured the plastic Mustang GT driving light housings weren’t as beefy as I’d hoped, so I double-layered them with another layer of plastic/vinyl from, of all things, a vinyl fence picket! Whodda thunk! Kinda makes sense, a Bronco inside a fence, sorta… Anyhow, got the housings beefed up to where I want them…….

Well, fine and dandy so far, but while I wuz begettin’ (Ken, we both might be thinkin’ “begettin’ the Bronco DONE!”) about the plastic housings, I hadn’t considered how I might begettin’ the plastic housings attached to the metal roll pan. Hmmm…. What if I’d build a metal ring to fit inside the plastic housing, weld the metal ring to the metal roll pan and bolt the plastic housings to the metal ring with the same ss sex bolts I’m gonna use on the fender flares and rocker guards? Hmmm, maybe, just maybe could work. Well, my tapeworm begettin’ hungry now, so time to put on the feed bag. Oh, and Skiddy, don’t be lookin’ at my booger welds. Oh, and Ken, hang in there Amigo, I’m begettin’ as fast as I can.

Ken, I really don't know if they are cogs or clogs or hamsters up there but most times when I get a notion I put it in motion. Big part of why it's taking me forever, plus it's sorta helping keep you alive, and me too, for that matter.... Anyhow, on with the show - Built a metal insert for the other side blinker 'cause I didn't want to be able to turn in only one direction Made the holes in the pan a skoosh bigger and welded them buggers on the pan. I'm thinkin' it'll work. Got to clean up the welds tomorrow and then start pondering on the air scoop. Btw, it's a beautiful day here in beautiful west Michigan.

Yesterday I finished up weldering the metal turn signal inserts to the roll pan and cleaned up the welds with die grinder that I had forgotten I even had! Then, because I don't get much done unless I have too much to do, I brought in the hood and a spare parts hood. I need to remove some of the stock hood bracing in order to clear the air filter. Tomorrow I'll split time between the roll pan air scoop and the hood bracing modds.

Began the hood alteration by removing a few of the offending pieces and parts. Seems I can't take two steps forward without taking a step backward and sure enuff, I ended up going a skoosh too deep and cut all the way through the hood. Dad-gummit! Well, I guess that's where I'll be starting tomorrow, assuming there is a tomorrow.....

To make an omelet, ya gotta break some eggs. To make a hood close, ya gotta cut and grind and weld and fit and grind some more and eventually end up at "that should fit, I hope..." Next I'll drill the holes for the Duff hood struts and fab a splice for the 1/4 inch brace dowels.

Thank you Cortez. Full disclosure here, most of the time, I think my progress moves at about the speed of evolution. Not a bad analogy, now that I think about it. Whether it's them voices, or maybe a Ridilyn deficiency, or maybe even wind direction, sometimes I veer a bit off course and get distracted by shiny things, kinda like these pictures show. Hang in there though Ken. Sooner or later, I gotta be runnin' out of things to mess with, at least I hope so.

What scoop did you use on the hood or did you fab it? Also, how tall is the opening on the front? Thanks.. Looking good.

I made the hood scoop out of a Ranger PU hood. The thread is at the link posted above in #249. I hope to put SS mesh in the scoop opening and in both air vents.

Thanks Ryan, and same to you! I'll likely be at both, assuming they're not cancelled and assuming I'm not cancelled. If the Bronk makes it to either, chances are it will be on a trailer.

Big double yuppers on that, Rydog! I wouldn't mind a bit, being sequestered with nothin' to do but ponder, cut things up and try to put them together again. Every now and then send out for pizza and maybe some more band-aids. Ahh, a dream come true…. Anywho, on another matter, I bought a metal-cutting blade for the band saw the other day. Man, that blade cuts metal like a hot knife through butter, slicker than sliced bread! Speaking of sliced bread and butter, it occurred to me that maybe that'd be the way to get the SS mesh secured in the revamped air vents, so I made some sandwiches - flat steel on the bottom with a proper sized hole for the vents in the cowl, just a pinch of panel adhesive epoxy catsup around the perimeter, a "meat" layer of SS mesh, a bit more catsup, and topped off with another steel ring, shaped to hold the chrome vent trim. Weight it done for a bit to let the catsup harden and Voila! an air vent sandwich! Next I spread a bit of mustard (Bondo) on the modified hood vent holes, sliced the "crust" off the sandwiches and crossed my fingers that it'd turn out yummy!
