It looks like a capacitor for suppressing radio noise but it has two wires like the catalyst sensor. My ‘77 does not have that sensor but it does have a catalytic converter.

Thanks for the response, now to find one. This is for 1976 (302).

Guessing it’s something I’ll stumble upon on eBAY. I’m sure I don’t need it just trying to keep engine bay stock.

9146 is correct. My '77 had one, but I never knew what it plugs into. Do you know?

Surprised to hear some of the 76 & 77's had this part. I though that was 75 only. I've seen 76 & 77's with a similar part to perform the same job, but it was done purely by vacuum rather than electrically. This electrical switch would be wired to a electrical/vacuum switch bolted to the drivers side valve cover that would activate the smog pump by-pass valve.

I bought my '77 new and the sensor wasn't plugged into anything. But I had some bad quality control failures. I just assumed this was another one and a harmless one at that.
