OK there is a local one for sale, that is from an 87 Mustang. Is that an early one? Any references that you're aware of that I can use for researching the right transmission?

Thanks!

That is likely the “early”. 87 is the split year for the kit...depending upon who you ask...

The AOD has the same 1-3 gear ratios as the C4, first gear is too tall compared to the 4r70w, or the 700r4. The 2.42:1 first gear is reason enough to upgrade away from the C4. The OD on the AOD. is a bit far from 3rd gear at .67:1. The 4r70w has a lot more usable OD at .72:1. For the cost, I wouldn’t even consider using The outdated AOD. Look at the ratios of the 6r80 trans, now that’s a nice range in a 6 speed for a Bronco.

Roger that...

Roger what? Never the AOD. learned that lesson. Destroyed 2 of them one right after the other. The 4r is much better. Do the explorer engine swap and use the computer to also run the trans.
