What was the story on the tire cover on that Bronco? Borrowed from a Baja? Went to Stroppe's and bought it?

Todd Z.

I really wish I knew the answer, but unfortunately my brother was killed in that bronco down in Baja in 1978 and I was just kid at that time so Andrew hadn't enlightened me on Stroppe knowledge yet :)

There's another picture of my brother sitting in the front seat and to me the steering wheel looks like it's padded, but I can't say it is with 100% certainty.

He had bought is used, but the previous owner obviously made some changes with that pin stripe along the body and that ugly (to me) mirror on the door.

A few pics of my 73 in April 88 around Breckenridge Co where I bought it. It was built in April 73 so it was 15 years old at the time. The first pic is about 15 minutes after I drove away from the guys house. You can see the top was black & the roll bar was body color.

I don't think I have a VIN handy, but this one came from Moyer Ford in Foley AL down by the beach. It made its way to Monroeville where my dad bought it while I was out on a youth trip. We sold it on eBay and it went somewhere out west. New Mexico I believe. I have seen pictures of it later that were taken by the next owner, but never found the trail.

Hey thanks for the response. My Marti says Jim Skinner in B'ham. Guess Blue Explorers were a hot item in AL!!! It had a rough life!!!;D;D;D

Love finding old pics like that

Great memories I'm sure

My mom is digging through some old photo boxes on the hunt for something, but she ran across these from our family vacation to Arizona in either 1999 or 2000. We flat-towed it behind our RV from Alabama. This was my second Bronco before I was 16. The first one was a little too far gone for a daily driver and we found this one instead. A 1974 Explorer with blue houndstooth interior. 302/auto with dealer installed A/C. We had the original window sticker. It was in great shape when I got the Honda bug A couple years later after The Fast and The Furious and we sold it.

Pics of my second bronco. First one was rough. 1983. My dad bought this ‘77 special decor for me although I had no idea that it was at the time. I redid the body by myself with a lot of bondo and my brother in law painted it. I also threw in a high school baseball pic from my state tournament just because it was in with my bronco pics

When I was a kid, we lived on a farm. My Dad had a red 73, which was the do-all vehicle, and the truck my 3 brothers and I all learned to drive in. One of its many duties was pulling the bale wagon during haying season. The lucky kid got to drive the Bronco, the rest had to load hay bales in the sun.

Anyway, fast forward 35 years or so...what was once very rural is now suburbia, Dad passed and became time to sell off the farm, but we donated part of the property to the City, to be used as a park and conservation reserve. The City put up some storyboards around the park explaining how we used to farm, etc. One of the storyboards shows the old Bronco pulling the bale wagon.

So on the opening of the park I took mine up there (also red), and had its picture taken with its predecessor...

It was used. Bought it in about ‘82 and sold it in ‘86. My dad actually went and got it for me, he lived in Moultrie. I’m not exactly sure where the owner lived. It may have been closer to Doerun. I remember that it was originally purchased in Albany. On that trip to the mountains I found out how bad the brakes were. It was used to flat ground.

This is a photo from my 1984 yearbook of my 1969 Bronco... I wish I still had it. As you can see, one of my classmates wanted me to junk it,
