It's my profile picture of my (at that time, my uncle's) bronco in the mountains outside of Aspen, Colorado in the summer of 1974. Bronco was 5 years old, I was 13! Best summer vacation ever. The bag in his had had wild mushrooms we had found an were bringing back down to dry.

I dug up a couple pictures of my first Bronco, the one that started this life long addiction. Sadly, I was never one who took many pictures in my younger days. So this set is all I have. Same can be said for the other three Broncos after this one. These pictures where taken in a friends driveway in 1978. The Bronco is a 1977 stripe delete Ranger. I graduated high school in 78 and bought the Bronco used that summer. I think it had 12000 miles on it when I bought it. My buddy and I went wheeling almost every weekend. Jeff, my buddy had a little better income than I, so he was able to afford a brand new 78 Bronco. Like the one pictured.

I only had this Bronco for a little over a year. When I got the itch to have a Vette. At that time I owned three vehicles. A 67 Pontiac GTO my first car throughout high school. A 73 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ, a hand me down from my folks and the 77 Bronco. The Bronco and the GTO were sold and the Grand Prix was traded in on a 77 corvette. It wasn't long after owning the Vette (winter came along) that I realized, how much I liked and missed the Bronco. So there would be a few more Broncos in my future.

Here is a pic of my '69 in about 1976-1977 in CO after Elk Hunting. Been in the family since 1975 and passed on to me in 1999.

In the first pic notice the Elk on the roof and a loaded down homemade trailer. This pic captured a broken u-joint in the Dana 30 trying to maneuver through this spot. I am told they had to unhook the trailer to get out and a buddy's bronco hooked up to the trailer and was able to make it through this slick spot with the use of a winch.

Cool pic, Mars! That's straight out of the 71 and 72 dealer brochures!

Many of these photos depict what defines the original Bronco. Maybe next year's calendar should be a retro-photos version.

Not a bad idea.. Jon could be interested in that

or if enuf committed, maybe 2 calendars history plus the normal calendar poses..

Nohay you still got those Jeans...
& I laugh at a pair of Stove Pipe stretch jeans I came home from Calif in 1966 with. Sure wish I had a Picture of me & them my 1st day of my senior year. Back Home.
... I wanted to wear them with my Cowboy boots .. But those paints just wouldn't go over the topps of those boots.
... & BACK IN MYDAY I wasn't going to be the 1st COWBOY at a RODEO WITH HIS JEANS IN MY BOOT TOPS.
..................
... bUT Lots of nice looking Broncos.

I like that idea. "The Broncos of Yesteryear". The more sepia-toned the photo the better.
here's one from 1974 when Broncos were the choice for field work. This is southern New Mexico.

Here are a couple pictures of the second Bronco I owned. A 1975 stripe delete Ranger with blue interior, automatic, PS and PBs. I purchased it for my daily driver in October of 1981. A few years later, I was married and I went back to school. Also I really needed a pick up, so I traded it in for a new 1985 extended cab Ranger. I wheeled this Bronco a lot. In fact this 75 is by far the one I had the most fun with off road. And as pictured it was never modified. This Bronco also featured the optional limited slip front differential.

My favorite off road memory with the 75, was when a buddy and I entered a local 4x4 clubs, on and off road, road rally. The object of the rally was to follow a road map of clues to the end destination, which turned out to be the 4x4 club's, club house. The route was over mostly gravel and low too no maintenance county roads, and also a few farm fields, one of which had a creek crossing. It had been raining all week that week, so the route was very slick and muddy.

We felt a little intimidated among a field of stock to highly modified 4x4's. But to our surprise the Bronco performed perfectly, through all the obstacle and earned the respect of the other participants. We never got stuck or needed any assistance, but we did help pull a few others out of situations. The highlight of the event was the mud bog obstacle course at club's, club house. We thought for sure we would get stuck, but again, the bronco proved us wrong. We must have run the course a dozen times. We didn't win anything at the event but the experience was a blast.

Ok these pictures are from my Roadster 2nd owner. At age of 17 bought the Bronco from his boss (owner of a huge ranch in Texas). I think the years range from 68-74.
