Three Broncos are headed to Big Bend Ranch State Park tomorrow for the weekend! The bluebonnets are supposed to be spectacular this year. Really looking forward to the trip.

I have not been to Big Bend for many years - not since right after college, and that was to the National Park, not the State Park. We're going to explore the trails in the Park and hoping to get close to or even into the big crater that is there - El Solitario. It's 10 miles across.

Anyone familiar with the State Park area? Any advice on what to do or what not to do?

I'll post pics when we get back.

Wanted to try and make it there when we lived in SA, but just never had the time. Would love to hear how your experience is.

.. I hate to say I didn't know there was a State Park & A NATIONAL PARK.
& SINCE I FANCY MYSELF AS A GOOD HUNTER. I'll say send me any PICTURES OF THE BIG HORN SHEEP your luck enough to see. . I believe they are in the State Park. As I say of all I knew about the relocation of the new Sheep. . Texas Had their own Big Horn sheep but they died out due BLUE TONGUE about 1935.
So a new herd .. Was trapped from the Hover Dam area in NEV.
NOW THEY have exploded & there are many thousands . In TEXAS & Mexico .. More in old Mexico than in TEXAS.
... BIG BEND IS High on my to do List..
SO you lucky Guys make PaPitt a good list of things to see in Big Bed.

Just got back home today. We stayed an extra day and visited Del Rio and Lake Amistad. It's been 4 days off-grid. The only cell service near the Park said "Welcome to Mexico!"

It was a great trip - very fun with some good folks. We went with LEBC members the Swems and the Hudsons. Neither are active here on CB. We met up in Fredericksburg and caravanned out to the Park. The State Park is much more primitive and a bit harder to get to. It was 21 miles of dirt road - very bumpy and dusty - to where we camped. We tried to check in at the Park office in Lajita but couldn't because of a new computer system they were not yet familiar with. The Ranger there said "You're not taking that Winnebago into the Park are you?" I replied that we were going to try! Anyway we went in and it was not too bad for the RV. We checked in the next day at the Park HQ in the center of the Park. Bringing horses to the Park is very popular and we camped at the Agua Adentro Equestrian Pens. Here are the Bronco all tied up after being rode hard and put away wet in the pens.

The first day ran Fresno Canyon to the Crawford Smith House. Incredibly beautiful and diverse in scenery.

The second day (Sunday) we went to the top of Madrid Falls. It was dry so we could not see much of the falls!

We were about 2 weeks past peak for Bluebonnets in the Park and about 2 weeks too early for many of the cactus blooms but there were some good ones we spotted.

The trails were not difficult and there were no "obstacles" but the roads were rough enough that high clearance 4 wheel drive was needed. We did not get into the crater El Solitario and there is supposed to be more difficult roads in the NW part of the Park. I guess we'll have to go back to Big Bend Ranch State Park again!!

A pic at Lake Amistad.

Yes, all 3 Broncos performed flawlessly. Just a lot of "Big Bend Pin Stripping" - including the tow vehicles on the road in and out.

Wow! That's a lot of miles! I think the national park has more paved roads? The state park has none. I'm guessing we did around 125-150 miles total including the 25 miles into and out of the Park in the RV.

Yes, Pa! It was a pretty spectacular sunset!

Howard, I am not familiar with how beautiful west Michigan is so I can't really say! But the Big Bend area has some very unique scenery. As with most dessert areas you may to look for the beauty, but it's there in abundance. ;D

Very cool. I wish I had known y'all were coming through Del Rio. I live here and would have shown you around some other cool places besides Amistad.
We love Big Bend. Parents took us there almost every spring break growing up. Now i take my family out every winter around Christmas time.
