Just to be clear on this....

Of the 25,824 Bronco's that were built in 1974, only 1,012 were painted Wind Blue.

Of those 1,012 only 72 were Explorers.
We determine this by the Body Code S4. Which is the code for the blue Explorer interior.

Explorer production numbers by color...

Viking Red 1274
Candyapple 138

Brook Blue 1239
Wind Blue 72
Grabber Blue. ?

Unfortunately I don't. I still have the old body sitting at my office. Maybe scrape away some layers and get down to what I think the color might be and post my findings...?

Usually some overspray up under the dash from the original unless all that was removed when painted.

I pulled the tub off the frame and starting with a new tub. Hopefully this week, I'll be able to check the old tub or the old dash for any original color.

Looks like it’s a goldish brown?

Very cool. Thanks for sharing. So just 13 raven black sports that year. Interesting statistic, and kind of follows what we know about not many black ones coming out over the years.

That will be interesting, I wonder if Marti will find out how many Explorer's were built or group them into Sport's ?
According to my Marti report, there were 3006 Explorers produced on 1972.

As for rigs that had both the Explorer package AND Sport packages... there were only 96 ever made in Seapine Green Metallic - and mine is one of them!

I've been keeping track of 72 Explorer Sport colors. I have 1 of 141 in Candyapple Red (Paint Code T).

72 is the only year you could get the Explorer and Sport packages together. And the Explorer package was only available with the Sport package. So every 72 Explorer is also a Sport model.

Have you posted the Mari for it? Please post it if possible!! I don't have anything for Seapine Green (paint code O). But with your info I'm down to just 16 unknown!

I keep waiting for someone with numbers on blue 72 E/S. I'm surprised I'm down to the last 16 with no blue trucks.

Here is what I have for 72 Explorer Sports:
3006 total E/S made
1655 Durango Tan/Light Goldenrod (paint code X)
488 Hot Ginger Metallic (paint code Z)
141 Candyapple Red (paint code T)
96 Seapine Green (paint code 0)- please post your Marti if possible!!!
71 Royal Maroon (paint code 2)-
66 Mallard Green (paint code V)
60 Winter Green (paint code Q)
36 Chrome Yellow (paint code G)
118 Tampico Yellow (paint code 8)- unconfirmed, no actual Marti Report posted
260 Sequoia Brown (paint code R)- unconfirmed, no actual Marti Report posted
15 unknown

I always assumed my friend’s ‘72 was Candy Apple. But was never 100% sure.
Can you tell from a picture, or are any of the other red colors too close?

You are asking a guy with red/green colorblindness. LOL.

Mine is original paint, but lived at 4500-8000' elevation for most it's life (Grand Junction & Gunnison, CO). It's quite faded now. Candyapple is really a pretty deep dark red.

Unfortunately I don't have very good pictures of it. It's sitting covered, waiting for me to get to work on it, but my trail rig keeps getting in the way.

Here is a pic of the door jamb with relativly unfaded paint.

I do have a Maroon Marti.
The number is actually 71.
Thanks for your data, I didn't have some of those colors.

Mine is one of the 1655, but I haven't gotten a Marti report yet.
