big bumpers usually so cows in field dont dent the body or so deer crossing a road at night dont come through the window. Not seen on race trucks really I would think.

No, they were on there. I've seen the race photos. Although they probably would help in a cow/deer collision.

We are getting closer to starting work on this 'Race Bronco'. It is in surprisingly good shape considering it's rough mud race history. The owner's father built it and campaigned it in the 70's and 80's up in the Ms Delta and over in La mud tracks. It was flipped at least 3 times (twice in one day!) It will be built to look like you see but will be drivable with auto OD trans, AC, good radio, disc brakes, etc. The top and hood were custom made by that the father. They made these commercially for a while and shipped them all over the US. The roll bar in the back and the bumpers will be maintained. A new engine has been bought and it is being upgraded by the engine mechanic that worked on the Bronco 40 years ago. The rear fares are lead. A neat history.

Thanks for posting up the pics Mike! That's a cool '67 with a colorful past! I like the lettering and the patina, the Stroppe steering wheel, and I see at least one Jackman wheel, but it might have a set of four! Keep us in the know by posting up the progress!..

They have a full set of those wheels. I'd never heard of those but now see that they are rare and valuable. These fine folks have bought parts that fill up 9 single spaced lined pages(!) The owner's father who built and campaigned the car is still living (age 83). At one time the exhaust exited through those two holes in the bed of the Bronco. He said it was so loud that they had to reroute it out the side. The owners have some photos of the Bronco is action and it is almost airborne across that mud. It is certainly a unique Bronco. We are to get it soon and will pull the body off the frame and media blast the body and sandblast the frame. Both are in surprisingly good condition.

Very cool project! Is the tailgate welded shut? Just curious about the rear bumper blocking the tailgate operation.

I don't think the tail gate is welded shut. That gigantic bumper is a bit in the way though. Those bumpers are welded to the frame. We are going to cut them off but plan to weld then back on again. The bumpers helped protect the Bronco in those races and helped (per owner/builder) 'push some of he competitors out of the way!'
