Would like to have a few trim pieces rechromed instead of buying repops. Anyone know a good chrome shop?

Good luck!!!! Most are small and about out of business so they cut coeners and the big shops want 8k to do two bumpers. But knoxville chrome is fairly decent. Dont know if that is the exact name but it is a chrome shop in knoxville, how many could there be

There are 2 big shops back East. There is one around Nashville (forget the name) and (forget location) Paul's Plating.

The plating is only part of it. The prep of the material is another one. It's not just dipping a part and having it come out right. It is easy for a shop to poorly prep a part, instead of filling pits they try to buff them away. And all the detail and diminsions as well. The other is the chrome. The good stuff is nasty and nearly outlawed if not just regulated to near death.

I needed a shoebox of small parts reworked for my boat. I checked with the local hotrod crowd. Phoenix is a large city. There are chrome shops to go with the lowrider shops. None had that great of a reputation. I had to drive to Tucson to the only shop in the state with a good reputation. Looked over the operation and the product going out the door. Than got a quote. Trinket parts were in the $20 range easy. I redid 2 cleats and wanted to add 2 more. I kept looking and found some correct style new cleats delivered to my house for about a third of what redoing the originals cost. In the end, that shoebox of parts was $700. It wasn't even full and had a lot of packing material in it.

This shop does first class work. Long way from you, but if it's small stuff, the shipping would be a minor part of the cost.

I worked for Jim a long time ago. Honest guy & produces amazing results. Whatever you do, don't try to push him around on price or anything else. Can be a little gruff, to say the least.

I know a guy who does amazing plating and polish work. It’s called WhitWorx in Lincoln Arkansas. Check out his website. The man is a perfectionist and if you have something rare or special he can take care of it.

Im going to call the different places tomorrow. I have a pair of original 66-70 chrome headlight rings that I want refinished. I read so many comments about the repops rusting up quickly so figured I would go this route. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! I will post before & after pics and cost of the job.

Mailed the headlight bezels to Whitworxs (I'm originally from AR so maybe a sign). They asked what type of metal the bezels are made of...if aluminum then would not be able to rechrome. They feel heavier that what I would expect aluminum to weigh, a magnet will stick to them (but I was told the metal in the chrome can cause that) and there's some rust. So my guess they are not aluminum....does anybody know? Here's the before shots and it will be around 6 weeks for the after shots.

I just sent the front bumper off of my 66 to pacific plating in san diego. I recently bought a rear bumper that they had rechromed...and the chrome was literally beautiful. that is the only experience I have with them. cost to rechrome the front bumper was 300 plus shipping both ways to san diego from south Carolina. pacific said they would do any straightening... if necessary!

Pacific plating in San Diego. The work is done in Mexico where the pollution laws are more relaxed. Top notch work but it takes awhile...

Yup, most shops now just farm it out to Mexico as mentioned above due to EPA.

Received my headlight bezels from Whitworx today. Total turn-around time from date mailed, 29 days. Cost $90 per bezel plus shipping/handling. I think they turned out great (smudges are my fingerprints)!
