There are 2 big shops back East. There is one around Nashville (forget the name) and (forget location) Paul's Plating.
The plating is only part of it. The prep of the material is another one. It's not just dipping a part and having it come out right. It is easy for a shop to poorly prep a part, instead of filling pits they try to buff them away. And all the detail and diminsions as well. The other is the chrome. The good stuff is nasty and nearly outlawed if not just regulated to near death.
I needed a shoebox of small parts reworked for my boat. I checked with the local hotrod crowd. Phoenix is a large city. There are chrome shops to go with the lowrider shops. None had that great of a reputation. I had to drive to Tucson to the only shop in the state with a good reputation. Looked over the operation and the product going out the door. Than got a quote. Trinket parts were in the $20 range easy. I redid 2 cleats and wanted to add 2 more. I kept looking and found some correct style new cleats delivered to my house for about a third of what redoing the originals cost. In the end, that shoebox of parts was $700. It wasn't even full and had a lot of packing material in it.
