Why? Sorry for the hi jack!!!
Cory,

It sounded cool, and people are having great success, but.....Just not my thing. As a matter of fact the motor was still at this place a while back when I was there. What's the weight difference between the 4BT and a 351W, anybody know?

About 200-250 lbs heavier for the 4BT. Cummins lists the weight at 750lbs. I understand a built 351 is about 500

Thats not to bad of a difference, you could cut weight other places.

Back to the Clydesdale build, are you guys making a custom flat bed for that BB (Bitchin Bronco)?

Cory,

Just putting a DD together for the wife right now. Basic low budget frame off:cool: , 302, C4, disk brakes, Dana44, big bearing 9", 4.11 front and rear w/ lunch box lockers, hydro-boost, family cage, etc... Then I will build a trail rig, just not sure on what setup yet. %) ;D

Well,
The idea was to build a flatbed, you know, an aluminum number w/ stake pockets.
But as soon as I drew the rig out with an exo, I knew I had a truggy, so that is the way we are going.

Motor mounts

We knew that it would be a balancing act to figure out the height of the motor, especially since the turbo is a high mount now.
We needed the oil pan to clear the high pinion on the axles that we wanted to use, but we still didn't want to block our view with the turbo, or make it any more susceptible to damage in a roll-over.
We ended up using the P30 type liquid filled mounts oriented straight up, since that method has come highly recommended by people that know more about these motors than I.

Here is why we are concerned about the pinion clearance.

Brakes

We know we want to run standard wheels, and we will need to upgrade to disc brakes, so we got the disc kits and pinion conversions from Mac at Exaxct Axle.
Outstanding workmanship on the disc kit.
New hubs come with the kit (8 lug ) so we will be running Hummer H1 wheels, with the H1 offset to decrease our scrub radius. Since the portal box puts the hub face farther from the point of rotation that a typical front axle.

Air locker

Quick and easy air locker. since the 404 axles have a cable actuated locker, the linkage was modified, and a small ($17) spring return air ram was added.

Tubes

Since tube bending was going to required in the near future, I went in with a couple of friends and built some benders.
Here is a link to the bender thread, you can find out all there is to know about these cool, easy to build benders.

Wheels and tires

For the wheels we are using H1 military Humvee wheels (not having them re-centered).
We added the Dean Reed inner double bead locks, and Dean's "Rock-Rings" rim protectors. We had them powder coated in low-gloss black since that is to color this rig will end up being when it's done.

How far down the frame rail did you go for the mounts? (from the top?)

What is the height difference between the Unimog and a HP D44? Best guess.

How much lift? Suspension? Body?

How far is the Turbo sticking out of the Hood?

I am trying to learn from you for my Cummins conv. any help is appreciated.
