Well finally making some more progress. I got my custom cam and installed it and degreed it. Should be able to finish most of the engine this weekend other than I need to measure and order push rods.

I did add a windage tray on the motor but decided to not do the main stud girdle.

Cam installed, timing cover, oil pan and windage tray and heads. Got the push rods measured up and ordered. Starting to come together.

Going to start with the Holley start up tune and go from there. Maybe some Dyno time after that

Got the motor running and the body installed. Surprised but it fit under the hood. Running good so far. Had to lower the radiator a bit to fit the intake. With that I had to also ditch the mechanical fan. We will see how that works. Never had a heat issue mostly because of the lack of inner fenders. Also need to finish the air intake system. Close to driving it.

Next interesting project will be the hoop cross over bar.

Are you running the holley cam sync? What are your first impressions on the tuning? Are you using the hand held? I know most of the LS guys love the holley stuff, and they are finally putting out some ford support. Hoping we can get some dyno tuning support this way since no one will tune mustang stuff anymore and the only person I have ever seen tune explorer stuff is efi guy. Would definitely help the few of us that run engines that require some tuning.

I am using the MSD cam sync along with a Holley crank trigger. My last build used a Holley dual sync dizzy and it also worked great.

I am using both the hand held and my laptop. The hand held wont handle all the functions my engine needs. Some things though can only be done with the hand held like TPS setup and data log.

My last EFI was Haltech. The Holley soft ware is a bit easier to deal with but the Haltech seems a bit more powerful. So far the tuning is really nice. The base tune I used was super rich on the bottom end which made initial start up challenging but the self tune cleaned that up really quickly. Once you get the throttle blade position set and the TPS auto set done it is seeming to work real well. One nice thing is on initial timing set up on the crank trigger I was only about 3 degrees off on timing. Easy to adjust in the timing offset tables.

I would say that the Holley is very easy to tune and work with. I really am liking it. I also have the Holley tranny control so I need to see how that also works.

I run an engine that "requires tuning" and Garry did a fantastic job, nothing remotely Explorer about it. I must not be understanding what you mean by "Mustang stuff"?? I run a Moates Qtrhorse driving an A9l. He tuned my 418 yrs ago and now I run a 460 sbf.

Obviously nothing stock on it. Super Victor intake, large forward facing elbow, 80mm TB. At a quick glance it looks very similar to rcmbroncs install.

With that said, yes, Garry can easily tune "Mustang" engines, especially since he owns one and tunes it too. :)

rcmbronco- strut cross support can get creative as there is a lot of "stuff" in there! You'll do it right, your entire build looks "right". :) Glad it's running good.

Brian "mustang stuff" means EEC-IV related. Currently where I live there is really only 1 guy that will still tune that style of computer, so you add Garry to that mix that makes 2 people. If I needed an LS with Holley EFI parts on it tuned, I could hit 10 dynos on the way to the guys shop that also tunes EEC-IV. Its mostly a support issue.

Most people that are building sbf stuff currently are moving away from TFI controlled ignition and towards EDIS for obvious reasons. I haven't looked at your 460 build a ton, what type of ignition are you running on it?

Currently I run a 351w with "mustang stuff" on it, but EDIS intrigues me. rcm has now built two motors that run it with two separate tuning software companies. Lots of good real life learned info there.

I run EDIS on my 460 and on the 418. Love it. Huge, FAT spark and Garry can tweak my timing all day long.

Looks wicked! That intake is so sweet. Width wise it is really tight. It looks like it would almost clear a stock hood (almost). I need to hear a video of this running wit that head and cam combination.

I think I pretty much have the install done. Need to get some running time on it.

Not sure I am super excited about the cross bar. Really close to the intake but should be OK. May install another one on the back side.
