‘77 SD with black rings. It’s supposed to be exactly the way it came from the factory according to PO. 18,000 original miles and a first place in an Antique Automobile Club of America national event.

Very nice...

77 Sport Question

I found a few pics in '76 and '77 era brochures etc. and they show chrome headlight rings but I don't know if that proves if they were offered or not. The b&w shot from the '76 data book shows a truck with chrome headlight rings but the text specifies black ones.

No wonder there's so much confusion.

Todd Z.

I was curious... the sport package was separate than the Special Decor package correct? Or, did they automatically come together in 1977?

Yes. The Special Décor was separate from the Sport package. You could get a Special Décor in either a standard Bronco or a Sport Bronco. The Special Décor package did include many of the Sport items...ie... window trim molding, and usually stainless vent window assemblies. All Special Decors had grill letters ,because of the black grills, and black headlight rings. Only the Sport had the grill surround trim and the Sport interior.. (and of course, the Sport badging.)

Nice looking EB!

I bought two in Arizona. My ‘77 came from Mel Clayton Ford in Phoenix. ‘76 came from Prescott......

From all of my research on the Décor options:
All of the décor broncos had a satin black grill insert.
All of the Head light rings were satin black regardless if it is a sport or not.
The FORD grill letters where solid bright with no red insert (I'm about 95% positive on this one).
If you have a black stripe (mine does) it is also satin black. There were white, black, and yellow stripe options.
Only the face of the core support was painted satin black.

If I come across something else I will add it to the thread...

Looking back through this thread. Fosegate mentions that he was 95% positive that the grill letters were solid bright with no red. The grill letters on my 76 Decor did have the red inserts. However, not as shown in the pictures I posted in post #50. Two of the red inserts were missing and one damaged. So I removed the remaining insert and left them just bright.

well here goes nothin... maybe nobody cares anymore but im going to post this anyway. im sure it may rock the norm with folks that are adamant that all special decors had a black grill and that's not my intent. My purpose is to put the information that I have found out onto the forum.

I have a 1977 paint code Z special decor... the grille was ARGENT and was Wimbledon white underneath it. Pics attached of the 77 grill when getting prepped down to metal. the entire 77 had been repainted once in its life to a color similar to code Z ( somewhat close). if you look you can see that it has no black paint anywhere except primer. there is a section near the headlight bucket that is black from a krylon camo paint job that was last put on the truck.

to make things even more interesting is that I have my brothers 1976 special decor bronco out back that is also a paint code z with an ARGENT grill

both trucks have full MARTI reports also.

Interesting finds. Are you and your brother the original owners? Did both broncos have the same color tape stripe or were they tape deletes?

Looked through all the pics and think the answer is no, but were any model year's EB grills painted body colored from the factory?
