.........but first let's remove the fender. wasn't too bad, every bolt came undone except for the two lower most bolts attached to the grill. the nut clips broke and so they just spun. I was able to pry the grill out enough to slip the sawzall in there to cut the bolts. well, now that I lost two original bolts I guess it's ok to cut the rear out for flares. now on to the rocker............

...........chopped, ground, and chiseled the rocker off and found a little rot in the bottom of the hinge post area I'll have to fix while I'm there. also, you can see the issues with the striker post and I'm pretty sure the bottom of the fender and the bottom front of the quarter share some of the damage that afflicted the rocker.
well, that's it for now.

is it still under warranty? I know what you mean though. saw some sanding marks and figured something was done there... but wow! what a surprise. someone was a good sculptor. at least it wasn't because of rot.

Someone was very good with filler application. The drivers floor was not nearly as nice when they filled it with plastic. I ground all of that out to get an idea of what was there. Dent repaid is always preferable to rot. YOu making your own rocker or buying a replacement?

Nice work Migs, the 76 makes me almost want to restore the 69 trail rig out there.

Do a job big or small do it right or not at all. Once the job has begun, do not stop till it's done,,, Or till the wife takes the visa card away

Well, haven't done much work lately, but some parts have arrived. only one little problem...the first rocker panel (black one in the pics) is not what I was expecting. it is advertised as "An exact reproduction of the Factory OEM Rocker Panel". first thing I noticed is that there are only 9 spot welds joining the two pieces and the bend radiuses are not very tight. and when I went to set it in place to check the fit I discovered that the inner seam bend sticks out too far and hits on the ends. so I trimmed one end of that just so I could get one side in closer to see how well the top and bottom flanges fit. once I saw that the bottom flange hung down too low I stopped, put it down, and went and ordered one from Dennis Carpenter (silver one in the pics) so I could get it here to compare.
well, when that one arrived I noticed a few differences between the two and it pretty much fit right in place, it will require very little work to fit great. I also noticed that it has the proper angles on the bottom like the original vs the rounded contour of the black one. now don't get me wrong, the black one is not junk, it is actually a tad heavier and I'm sure with a bit of work you could make it fit. But for me, it is just not a factory reproduction and wont look right on my build. I have contacted the vendor about this and I have no animosity against them. they have always provided me with great service and I'm sure I will be ordering more parts from them in the future. I just wanted to post this up for others to see and compare, and possibly help someone trying to decide what might work best for them.

Yea, I've found all "EXACT" OEM duplicates seem to be missing the word "kinda" in the description....

Makes you wonder how many people end up with the ones that don't fit well. 95% of them throw them on and make them work. Not always a bad thing.

Good for you being the perfectionist, being one of the 5% that wants it to be right on the money.
