Pros vs. Cons For Converting to Propane Pros vs. Cons For Converting to Propane
FAQ concerning the pros and cons of running propane as your primary fuel system
This FAQ is for propane only systems. A gasoline/propane system does exist, however that is another topic.

:A propane engine will run on vertially any angle, Probably upside down, however, this has yet to be tested personaly.
:Not susceptible to fuel slosh; won't stall unless you stall it.
:Higher octane rating than regular gasoline, Opinions vary, but all say between 100-112 octane.
:normaly cheaper than gasoline, about $18.42 for and 8 gallon tank,$2.30 or so a gallon.
:burns much cleaner than gasoline.
:convertion kits are relativley cheap, a V8 convertion will run about $1,000.00-$1,200.00
:Virtualy any internal combustion engine can be converted to propane, If you can run your Bronco on a 5 horsepower Briggs & Stratton you can convert it to propane
:Propane systems are simple to install. More or less a bolt on system.
:require little to no maintenance.
:very tolerant to climate and altitude changes, Your sea leve tune will work flawlessly at 6,000 feet and vise versa.
: Very safe, sealed system, fuel will not spill out in a rollover

:Availability; can't just drive up to any gas station and fill up your propane tank.
:Propane makes about 74% of the power of gasoline.
:fuel milage is alittle worse. 1 gallon of propane is equal to about 9/10ths of a gallon of gas give or take.
:smells like your driving fork lift on the trails.
:you will have a hard time getting someone to bring you a 5 gallon can of propane if you run out.

From personal experience (my dad owns a propane business) its a great option for those of us who like to run motors that are really thirsty. The size of motor fuel tanks are expansive, and it allows us to run our 87 Ford F350 with a 460ci that gets an amazing 4MPG almost 350mi before a fill up. (75gal tank)

Also, the conversions allow you to run dual fuel. So if you DO run out of propane on the trail, you can switch to good old gasoline, and continue on your way-

Your spark plugs also stay cleaner, so does your oil, making both last longer.
