1966 Special order factory blue Paint?

Hi, I recently picked up a 1966 Bronco half cab model. Unfortunately it's warranty tag has rotted off the kick panel. I did find the Vin on the frame rail U14FL798***. I have been researching factory paint codes for 1966 and cannot find the shade of Blue that was applied to my truck at the factory. It almost looks like grabber blue. I am now wondering if it was a special order or possibly a fleet color? I appreciate any help.

Welcome. The original primer on a 66' was red oxide, so a dull almost rusty red. In your third pic, the red showing through the blue looks brighter than the primer red. Any other pics? The dash should be bronco gray poly, is it blue also? If it's blue, if was for sure a repaint.

And in the first pic it almost looks like the darker blue is on top of a lighter blue. The lighter blue looks almost like peacock blue, but I don’t remember that being a 66 color.

Yeah D Peacock blue was a 66 color also.

Thanks for your reply. The lighter blue is on top of the original. Dash panel is silver. The original blue is definitely over red oxide primer. The darker blue is all up under the dash so was definitely factory. It's a real mystery

If it is a special order paint, the color code on the warranty plate would be missing, and that area left blank. If there were Marti Reports for 66' broncos it would come back as just stating special order paint as well. I would call them and see if they might be able to match a paint chip, you would have to send that to them of course. Any chance there's still a buck tag hanging from a thin wire on the firewall, just above where the heater hoses go through the firewall? It will have the original paint on it, no color code though. It's a piece of metal about 2"x3"

Unfortunately no Buck tag. I think sending Marti a sample is a great idea. I was also thinking that the color looks a lot like New York state trooper blue that they paint there cars. I am in NY so that might be a possibility. Just not sure if they used Broncos at all back then. Thank you

Oh they definitely were used in the LE role in the US, Canada and in the the military across the globe.
