Bought running in ‘85 when it was winning cross country rally’s, then it sat for 20 years due to my work travel. Started this restoration in 2008 or so, in parallel with other projects including 4 other Bronco builds. I’ve sold off the other Broncos over time, this has been a daily driver in TX and CO few years and now has to make way for the project of building up my 2024 Wildtrak.
It is a powerful drive on the road and very rock steady due to suspension and welded-in roll bar.
Except for body panels I can‘t think of anything that hasn’t been replaced since the frame-off:
Ford Performance 347 CID stroker - approx. 6000 miles
Single serpentine belt/Explorer accessory setup
Automatic transmission with 4 speed AOD – approx. 2000 miles
Temperature-controlled transmission cooler
Transfer case rebuilt 2023
New drive shafts 2023
Holley Sniper EFI
MSD electronic ignition
BFG KO2 tires & Method rims – approx. 1000 miles
3 inch into 2.5 inch exhaust with shorty headers
Headlights, all bulbs LED and new lenses
Full electrical wire harness
Sony stereo head, with crossovers and DSP and Focal speakers
Extended radius arms
Body and suspension lift
Dual front and rear shocks
Front and rear anti-sway bars
Functional 4-point roll bar
23 gallon gas tank
Detroit True-Track front and rear diffs
11-pack rear springs
Rear disc brakes – all pads approx. 2000 miles
Racing seats with side bolsters
Locking center console
Tinted glass
