I should have been more specific ;D 351w and I'm not planning on doing a Clevor  Thanks though!

What headers are you using with the TF heads?

I'm running WH Ceramic coated shorties with O2 bungs. I had these on my 302 EFI. Tight fit on the passenger side. I also have a third wideband O2 sensor on the driver's side to monitor the fuel/air ratio an O2 gauge mounted in the cab.

So your question is ???: you want what brand heads for 408's or do you want what brand heads for a 351W? Interested in intake flow rates also or ?

TW 205's are what I have sitting on my work bench waiting to go on my 418...way too big for a 351W unless you are looking for 6,000rpm and up HP numbers in a car.

BC Bronco's 1 5/8" primaries fit perfect on my TW. For a 351W, 1 1/2" primaries work great for torque and midrange HP #'s.

What we need to see are some 1 5/8" primaries with a 3" collector which would be THE ticket for our common SBF stroker #'s... Eric... : )

It's funny you would mention that. I've always heard "That head is too big for . . .", but haven't found a lot of specific info addressing what makes a head too big for an engine. One thing I've wondered for a long time is if I did a build on my 351w, spend money on good heads, and then do the stroker down the road, could I get bigger heads that would work on the 408 in the future (like AFR 205's) AND still work for the 351.

This article suggests maybe?

I mentioned 351w for Bill to let him know I want to do a Windsor 408, not a 351M/400 408.

I guess I'm just asking generally what cylinder brand/models guys have used on their 408's and similarly did they use off the shelf headers or need custom ones. I can always pull flow #'s and such from the manufacturers web sites.

.

I understand your embarassment..really I do. I mean come on..you Wheezeer guys are all talking abouy 185 this and that while the real 351 engines had, as the most weeny parts offered, 190 heads, massive ports, 2.05" intake valves..1.65" exhaust valves......you know,,stuff you can't even dream of. ;D And then we can start talking about the performance heads: 2.19"intake valves..240cc runners...yet still 64cc chammbers,,,,

Here is my setup:

1995 F4TE block
Eagle 4340 forged crank
Eagle forged 6.2 H-beam rods
Mahle 28 cc forged pistons
Comp Cam 35-514-8
Trick Flow 185 CNC Heads
ARP Head bolts
Ford racing roller lifters
Harland Sharp 1.60 Roller rockers
Ford GT-40 tubular upper and lower
73 mm Throttle body EGR delete
Mallory TFI distributor
A9P ECU
WH Shortie headers
Summit-163289 DAMPER OEM 351
Two into one exhaust 2.25" to 3"
Trickflow tall valve covers
Taurus electric fan
Explorer serp with explorer PS pump

I can run 87 octane with no ping, but I usually run premium fuel.

The options for how to build one are endless.

Ouch! You wound me ;D

I guess I'll just have to live with my OEM serp setup, no need for transmission adapters, plentiful and affordable 302/351 parts, . . . ;)

Truth be told, if I had the budget for running one, I'd love to build up a 400 or a stroker Clevor.

Yep:). BCs are nice but only 2.5" collectors. These will have the best of everything if they fit.

4bbl Cleveland heads flow a lot of air but have terrible velocity at normal operating rpms... great at 5k and up tho!!! AFR and TW have some of the highest velocity/flow rates at .3'"-.5" lift than any other head out there. Great for the rpm's most EB owners need.

For a 351W you could use 185 AFR or TW heads and then use them when you build your stroker also. I think the 185's would still be OK on the 351W but would really wake up a 408 build down the road.

Maui, do you know what deck ht and what thickness gasket you ended up with?

Here's the just of mine:

418 Stroker kit based on Mahle pistons SBR245030I26 1.245" compr. ht.

Crank- 4.1" stroke, forged- Scat (internal bal)

Rods- 6.20" I beam forged- Scat

TW 205 CNC heads

Custom ground roller cam by Ed Curtis

All the other stuff to make it go...

Thanks for the answers on the torque plates. I won't be using that shop again. I'm tempted to pull the motor apart and start over. Everything else was done right. Maybe I'll source another block and start again.

I noticed that you have a 41 Willy's. Is it a true Willy's or a GPW Ford? What kind of shape? I owned a 42 Ford for years...fun rig but pretty dang basic!! Oh, to keep this relevant, do you have TW heads on it?? :)

That is very true..and why I stay with the 2V heads for almost all of my builds.;)

My 41 is a Willys. Kind of rough but all there. Slat grill, embossed tailgate. Early 41, pretty rare.

so it seems that since I only want about 350-400 ft-lbs i should stick with a healthy 351w or 357w.
