This will open all kinds of debates and opinions kinda like the 302 vs 351 debate.

I have zero experience with 408s but my mild built 351 has more torque than it probably should, sometimes I feel like I need wheelie bars,

So I vote 351w you can build a 400hp+ 351w relatively speaking inenxpensive

I'll be watching this thread to see what the 408 guys say...

I installed a 302 HO in 2011. I loved the EFI but felt the power was pretty weak, so in 2012 I built a 408 Stoker and I love it. Mine is a toy and it's not driven a lot so I can't tell you how long they last. I recommend going with forged crank, rods and pistons. I chose an Eagle kit on the recommendation of a highly respected performance engine builder.

a 408 fits where a 351 where a 302 fits. But.... better plan on cooling it, thats an increase of 35% in heat production.

just completed a 331 400hp build w/ a custom cam for the bronco w 4:11 she's pretty torquey I dind't want somthin" to smoke the tires she digs in and goes, my shift points w/ c/4 is 4200 on the down and WOT is 5,200 rpm and for kicks and grins I took it to the local track and she turned high 12,s Kinda the best of both worlds torque and speed. as far as torque when down to 2nd the left front feels like its coming off the ground so I can only figure what a 408 would do. rwhp @ 258 Plus 30 % thats about 370/380 right under 400 so thats where I wanted it , but I know 351, 357 roller stand on and thell just sit and smoke the tires. how much launch you want?? Ive droped the transfer to fix adapter leaks 1 too many times was far as wheeling I don't even put my foot into it it climbs @ idle to 1300 rpm.W a 2100 stall, just my 02, could be my age, the 347 woulda cost the same. I had my reason. if your gona use d/60 1ton stuff c/6 or 4r yes 408 loosing 175hp/ 200 hp. by all means go big. My original plan was a dart blocked 363 @9.5 comp but $ out ways the means. a 408 with 400hp @ 3.5 K should be a blast .

Yeah, my stroker definitely extends the front springs when I take off. The torque is a blast. I still need to upgrade the injectors and do a tune. I have a quarterhorse tuner and the software, just haven't got the bug yet. You won't regret going big but you might regret it if you don't. I got into a little stop light fun with a very nice performance Camaro one time. I had him until he hit the nitrous. I think he was surprised.

I plan on doing an injected 408 in my build, i'd rather do now than regret not doing it later, plus it will be a nice to have the power to turn the big rubber, I plan on running 40's. If you are going to go with a stroker i would seriously look into some type of programmable tuner for your ecm, or an aftermarket ecm that is programable, not just a plug and play chip. I'll most likely run the MegasquirtPNP

http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirtpnp-g2-eec4a8-for-8693-ford-mustang-50-p-524.html

I've also looked at the TWEECER EEC tuner, but i plan on researching it a little more

Love my 408. Reliable as a hammer and pulls like a tractor.

I'm in process of building another one right now, but its going in a '78 Bronc and not an EB this time. Roller cam..roller rockers..EFI.

Wyo4x4er, are you looking for a stroked 351w or stroked 351M/400. Big difference in the engines and how they fit. The stroked 351w will go right in. The 400 will take a little doing.

Why spend the money on a 408 when you can build a 351 to more power then you could ever need/use... for cheaper.

In mind there is no such thing as "more than you could ever need/use". I can slow down any time but I can't get more power anytime I want. Besides, there is just something about a stroker.

351m is a destroked 400. But its a 400, .030" over to 408 ci, that I'm running in my '69 EB. This tread is about 408s, yes? ;)

Good points. The old adage "no replacement for displacement" is as true today as it ever was.

I'm still planning on building that 466 stroker I've had my eye on for a few years.;)

Why do people climb Mt. Everest? There is not much rational thinking that goes into Bronco's. I have taught my wife to just not question it;D
