Beauty Beneath - Adventures in Undercoating

Thought I would share a before and after pictures of my recent eradication of undercoating. I read all the techniques including heat, dry ice, and various chemical and mechanical methods, and what I found was that good ole WD-40, applied over several days does the trick. Some cheap plastic scrapers and scotchbrite (non-scratching) pads and a little elbow grease.
Pics from both sides of the front wheel wells. Similar results on the rear wheel wells. Still needs a little detail work but I thought it was cool.

My dad loved that cheap asphaltic undercoating from the 80s and 90s. I think he didn't want to wash that area so the lazy thing to do is shoot it with undercoating. Only my dad did the engine compartment as well.

Looks great, keep it up!

I always liked the body color paint better, but even though I bought mine when it was only 5 years old, the original paint under there was so torn up and rusty that I did what any self-respecting driveway 4-wheel tech would do. Undercoated it!%)

Hated doing it, but re-painting was not in the cards and undercoating was a quick way to make it look fantastically new and black. For awhile...
Used to paint over it every year or two. Paint someday though.;)

Oh, and fantastic result in your case! No matter how easy you make it sound, it still seems like you did a lot of work to get it that way.
And as said too, the old ugly undercoating did it's good work over the years too.

I even undercoated the backside of my chrome bumpers to keep the little bit of surface rust that I knew they would eventually suffer from at bay.
But that body color sure does look sweet!
