I'm just curious if anyone here has taken a body off in a regular 2 car garage at there house. If so do you have any tips or pics for me. Trying to figure out how to go about this.
Thank you

I did. It depends on the shape the body is in. My body was shot so I took a torch and cutting wheel to it and cut if off in pieces. I will buy a new body in April. If you are saving it, I would brace it and get it on a foundation that supports it quick! It will warp fast.

No special equipment needed. Just a few friends to help lift it off - there were four of us when I did mine.

I'm assuming you plan to remove the top, doors, etc. Mine was a bare tub when removed. Brace up the door openings so the tub doesn't fold up.

I built a wooden skid to set the body on for easier handling and transport.

i built an overhead gantry and used ratchet straps attached to front floor body mount holes and rear body mount holes to lift it. braced the doors and inner fenders before lifting it off. once off the chassis, i rolled a simple cart underneath it that had mounting points to simulate frame elevations and harbor freight rubber tire casters. its easy to move around.

Well I'm definitely not cutting it lol. It's in great shape. How much do you guys think it weighs (I'm a crane op so I gotta know lol). I got it all apart fenders and everything off. I'm also having trouble getting my shifter off so I'm gonna try to lift around it.

I removed my tub in a single car garage. I had my doors removed as well as the top. I was able to brace the tub using 2x4's and lifted it with a cherry picker set to a 1/2 ton setting and it lifted no problem. I stored the tub in the garage on its side. Just threw down some packing blankets and set it on top of them. I can post some photos this afternoon when i get home.

With the top, doors, fenders etc.. removed and doors braced it's light enough for 4 guys to lift over the shifter/s.

Remember to disconnect all frame to body connections like associated wiring, clutch rod (if applicable) fuel filler hose etc..

Those photos were taken I believe in August so I have made some progress. ive replaced all the suspension rebuilt the axles replaced brake lines cleaned and painted the frame and other parts new wheels and tires and finally getting ready to put the body back on. I wanted to rebuild the motor but ran out of time getting ready to move soon so I have to get everything put back together. Here is one of my most current photos. Thanks for asking.

What all do you have planned for your rig once you get that tub off?

Sweet man. Looks like I'm gonna be doing the same thing you are. Gonna strip it down and restore from frame up. I think I'm gonna replace the brakes with discs other than that it runs great. It's been my offroader/hunting machine for awhile.

Are you in Kingman? I have a jig that I use to pull tubs, it bolts to the door posts and the bed rails and allows you to pull the tub with a 2 1/2 ton engine hoist with 1 person. It's in New Mexico now, but I could bring it to Prescott next week if you promise to return it when your finished. I have 1 1/2 more Bronco's to build. If you go to the Stampede I could take it there too.

Look in my build thread (below here) and look at post 12 and 15 for pic's.

I always remember the great advice on this board about removing the body "It only takes an hour or so to remove.....but five years to get it back on" lol.....

So, you don't need me to bring a roll of plastic, some bleach, and a shovel?

I was reading this post trying to figure out the best way to lift my body off the frame so I can install my drive train easier and shoot some paint/raptor lining underneath it. I have a hoist in my garage so I was thinking I could attach some eye bolts to the very rear bed frame channel support and floor channel support and run cable or good line to the hoist arms and lift it off that way. My only reason for this is it will give me an un obstructed area to spray ....what are your thoughts?
