Charles 1974 Build In Progress

I am posting this thread on behalf of my father. This is his build thread for the 1974 Bronco he purchased in PA a few years ago. The Bronco was my daily driver through high school in NH and now that I'm in Oregon for college, my father and I thought it was a perfect time to tear it completely apart and build something even more fun. This first set of pictures was taken around this time last year. Together, we tore the Bronco apart down to the frame, and then sent it to RMR Restorations in Hollis, NH. The guys there blasted the frame, epoxy painted it, and welded on the rear shock mounts, front hoops, etc. for the 3.5 Duff long arm kit we are upgrading to.

Off the top of my head, this is the build specs and parts wish list I can think of. The interior still needs to be figured out and I'm sure I've missed some details in there.

Engine:
Rebuilt Late 80's 5.0
AFR heads
Ceramic coated long tube headers
Pertronix ignition
Edelbrock Carb/Intake
FlowKooler water pump
Ron Davis radiator
Rebuilt C4 w/ deep pan and mild shift kit
D20 transfer caser w/ JB twin sticks
Body:
"1969 Bullitt Green" paint
Protofab front/rear bumpers
Warn Powerplant winch
Raptor lined interior/engine bay/fender wells
Drivetrain:
4:11 Gears w/ Yukon lockers
Dana 44 Front w/ Wilwood discs
9" Rear w/ Wilwood discs
BC Broncos tank
Suspension:
Duff 3.5" "Monster" kit
Duff shocks
2" body lift
17" Steel beadlocks w/ 35" Nitto Trail Grapplers

I have plenty more pictures of our progress on hand to share with the Bronco community if there is interest. Work is sort of slow, since it is a one-man effort in the garage back in NH.

I wonder how close the modern highland green on the new Bullitt Mustangs was to the original.

It was very close but the modern formulation was much more deep and rich. When you see it in the sunlight it's amazing. I was very happy to stick with a Ford color that really was jaw dropping cool!

Once we had the rolling chassis basically complete, it was time to decide what to do about the tub. Let me tell you, New England's lovely corrosive road salts do wonders sheet metal, it was evident that the tub was pretty much shot. The time/effort/money involved in doing the rust repair and potentially hiring a body shop seemed pretty astronomical so we decided to cut our loses and look for a new tub. After searching Craigslist we struck a deal to have a refurbished tub shipped to NH from Southern California. In the meantime, we mounted our 35" Trail Grapplers and 17" Allied Beadlocks, and sent our gauge to Classy Chassis for a rebuild. Also, we installed the Chevy heater conversion, something that I'm very excited about since the stock heater left a lot to be desired.

Made a lot of progress since I last posted. We have the engine up and running, and have even been able to putt up and down the street under her own power! The front and rear bumpers are painted, and the interior is coming together nicely. We went with a stainless windshield frame from TBP to replace our old corroded monstrosity of a frame. We decided to run a hydroboost system which should be an awesome upgrade from our old vacuum booster, as well as plumb in a power steering and transmission cooler. It's not running perfectly and there are a few hiccups we need to work out, but it's a great feeling looking back on how far we've come. We have a family cage from Protofab ordered and doors and a tailgate from Tom's are also on the way. I'm sure I'm forgetting some details here but it won't be long before it's all painted and ready to go!

Yesterday the doors and tailgate arrived so my father got to work assembling all the internals and mocking up the body panels. Obviously the panels will need some massaging to fit perfectly, but that was to be expected. He also installed some upgrades recommended by another member on here to hopefully make our edelbrock carb a little bit happier when it finally gets off road.

The final color is going to be "Bullitt Green" the beige color is just the primer but you're right it doesn't look so bad.

Here's some pictures of how it's looking as of a few days ago. She's all primed and nearly ready to go. Thanks to Protofab for making an awesome custom cage that the Corbeau Baja XRS seats/Harnesses/Tuffy console will all directly bolt to. Just waiting on a soft top from BC Broncos, minor body work, and finishing touches like an exhaust, mirrors, etc.. Hopefully it'll be out of the shop by memorial day.
