Well, this free 9" housing isnt looking very good. If the Torino ends were bad I'd cut 'em off and use it but each side was butt welded close to the middle of each tube!

Weight question.

Has anybody weighed a 2 WD 1/2 cab bare bones accurately?

I weighed 810 pounds DS front, 820 pounds PS front I'm 625 PS rear and 625 DS rear.

Can it really weigh under 3000 pounds without an 85 pound Dana 20 and a couple hundred pound ( I need to look this up) Dana 44? No DS either.

Thoughts?

I used a single post Scale that is supposed to be within 1% percent and I centered it in the tire front and back side to side to side. The entire vehicle was level including when it was sitting on the Jack so there was not any fulcrum issues happening.

Thoughts

EPB72- I have shared a few msgs with that guy this week. They have more $$ in the rear end than I will have in the entire build! Very professionally done. I was thinking (for a week) of going that radical cause I love the HUGE tubs but it would be a car show only ride. Hard to drive comfortably a couple hundred miles in it...

Steve- thanks for the weight info. By the time I put my Windsor in, add another 100 lbs with the 6r , some dynamat and AC, I'll be over 3K but 2K less than my other one.

Agreed, if they'd narrowed it the "typical way" I probably would have gone that route but they butt welded the tubes together close to the center of the housing, added some homemade brace to it so I'm going to pass. I have a local buddy that I can get one from- hope it's a little straighter!

I want bags so I can avoid "issues" like speed bumps and curb cuts (and it would look good sitting in the dirt) but every place that sells bags and coilovers say coilovers are the way to go for ride quality... so I'm going to try to keep the 5 1/2" clearance btw the bottom of my rocker and ground and hope it's enough.

I got TS's scale and weighed each corner. I was surprised.

DS FRT 810
PS FRT 820

DS Rear 625
PS Rear 625

Total weight 2880

Seems low but...

You have my attention. I have lowered every truck I've owned (except my EB). Love to stance of them. Have you thought about AWD?

No I haven't thought about AWD.

I don't want to drive this one in the winter for a couple reasons. Main one is they spray a 1/2" of Mag Chloride on the roads a couple times/week. Stuff is like pouring acid on your electrical connections!!!

Other important reason is "All Ford". :)

Don’t have to drive it in the winter…. Smokey, 4 wheel drifting is FUN. And at the drag strip puts it to the ground rather than up in smoke😈

However I get the design challenges of that. I also understand your build desires.

Yes, AWD... I guess my snow reference isn't very well thought out! Can't at this time see any way to make it all Ford, handle passengers with daily driver ride quality and be able to make it AWD (w/o breaking into a bank somewhere) :)

I enjoy Kenny Block's builds. His budget is a bit higher than mine! lol I did say different and that would be cool... I have my old 418 laying around was my thought.

A buddy is talking hard about a 3.5 TT with the 6r already behind it. Easy 500 hp and smooooooth, probably easy 20 mpg since the F150's that weigh 1800#'s more and are 2' taller get 20+ mpg.

If you need some midnight reading and inspiration on dual turbos in old Fords, this thread is pretty interesting.
