Thats interesting - not according to Four Wheeler mag - says 77 is the first year of the stock 297 joints

I think 4 wheeler was mis-led. The 78 modal came out in late 77 so that may be the mix up. All of the 77 I have seen have the 260s or non-stock axles

Your choices are: aftermarket (Moser, Warn, etc.), or the cheaper route is to get a set from a 70-76 (?) Ch*vy Blazer or 1/2T 4x4 pickup WITH DANA $$- not corporate 10 bolt. The RH side of the Ch*evy Dana 44 is the exact match for the LH side of an EB; the inner shaft will have to be shortened to 27.94" and resplined. Moser will do this for $50 plus shipping. Ford full size Dana 44 will also work, the short side is not an exact length match. I have also heard that the Dana 44 shafts in the Jeep Cherokee Grand Wagoneer are the same as the Che*vy shafts.....
