Explorer disk rear shock mount question

I have seen a couple of posts about mounting the rear shock but I am still confused. I am installing an explorer rear disk setup with a cage 5.5 lift and do not want inboard shock mounts because of body roll issues.

Has anyone installed the explorer rear disk by moving the rear mount on the axle housing over or moving them to the front of the housing.

Can you just move the rear mounts over? What are the interference issues? Does the parking brake cable interfere with anything? I want to stay with a single shock setup.

Does anyone have pics of their setup?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Just posted a pic in my gallery (couldn't add one here??) The rear end and lower shock mounts are from Currie. I'm using a single Bilstien on each side. I've got a couple of more angles if this doesn't answer your question. Happend to be under there today fabing up a E-Brake system.

You could use the Cage rear shock setup which moves the shocks to the front of the axle...also supposed to help with axle wrap some (when using dual shocks). I dont have the rear axle attached to the frame/rear springs yet...still on to do list...but this rear shock set-up will alleviate the issue with the caliper clearance...also the Cage bracket brings the shocks (frame mount) at least as far out as the stock, so should not affect (increase) body roll. Thanks guys.

Rob Wilson,
That is the pic I was looking for. Thanks very much.

What upper mount did you use or did you fab your own? I hate to ask but do you have a pic of it?

Here are a couple pics of mine - I think they're very similar to Rob's. Lars on this board was building sets for awhile (might still be) and I saw that WH now offers something similar called the "Shock Jock".

All you have to do is either fab some up like you said - or just order a "stock" set of replacement rear shock mounts and mount them in the forward position like in Toddz's photos. Jeff's has them:

That is a good suggestion. In my particular case it didn't work because the stock mounting stud has a different diameter than the i.d. of the spherical bearing on my 7100 Bilsteins.

I think I am going to fab a bracket so that I can get it closer to the body with a 1" body lift to get more travel.

Flyin,

I'm pretty sure Todd is running a 1" lift. With these mounts all you need to do is notch the underside of the fender well. It doesn't cut into the interior at all. Gives you maximum travel that way.

I was running the 0" body lift when the pics were taken. I've since added a 2" body lift but haven't gotten the truck back on the road yet....
