For Viperwolf: Interested in Your Progressive Throttle Body Mod on Explorer TB

I'm working on putting together my upper intake (Explorer / GT40) and interested in your progressive TB mod using a pulley. I've got a NOS F67U Explorer TB. Before doing the Lars Mod to switch to the mustang lever, I was interested in your comment that you figured out how to use the stock Explorer lever with the progressive TB mod.

That thread has some pictures of what I believe was your first attempt, using the mustang lever, and I've seen you link a few times to a thread on another site, but that link is now defunct.

So I was wondering if you had any pictures or further explanation of how to do the mod using the Explorer lever.

Follow-up question: you use the BC Broncos bracket coming from the front. Would it be possible (and if so, even advisable or preferable) to do the progressive TB mod using the Lokar Bracket, coming from the rear?

Here are some pictures. This one worked out real well. Big difference between this and previous ones is the way the pulley is attached. Instead of mounting the pulley to a fixed point on the BC arm, the arm was slotted so there is adjustability in the pulley position. This lets you easily adjust the pedal throw.

The arm itself is just welded under the stock explorer lever. It could be attached in a similar fashion to the Lars Mod with a bolt also. The stock ball stud hole is already in a good location for the throttle cable. I don't recall if the ball stud was flipped over or not though. In these pics you see a spring on the side where the kickdown cable would go with a C4. The spring is necessary either way but you would need to attach it differently with a kickdown. This method eliminates the extra work to convert to the mustang lever which doesn't get you anything if you add the BC lever.

You'll have to play with the pulley position and cable length to get a little slack at idle and full throw at WOT.

I haven't done one with the Lokar bracket but it doesn't seem like it would be difficult to make it work. Just need a little space under the throttle body to make the pulley fit.

Hi viper, where is the throttle cable standoff positioned with this mod? I can't tell from the pic. Looks like the throttle cable goes around the pulley and terminates on a standoff that's mounted where?

Also, is the long BCB spring surrounding the throttle cable needed or used with this mod? I see you still have it installed but also have a supplemental spring over on the kick down side of the BCB bracket.

The ball stud is attached near the pivot point. It goes through both the original explorer lever and the BCB lever.

The BCB spring doesn't provide enough pressure to work well by itself. Even before I created the progressive linkage I found this to be the case. I keep the BCB spring because I feel it helps provide some throttle return pressure and it helps protect the cable. I did stretch it out to make up for the increased cable length.
