I need some help. I currently have 3.50 gears in my high pinion dana 44 front end (out of a 76 f150). I am wanting to put 4.10 gears in it to match my rear end ratio in my bronco. Do I need to gear a different carrier to run 4.10s? 3 series or 4 series? what is the difference between the two? can I order 4.10s thick cut or standard? so pretty much I need someone to tell me exactly what gears I have to order to go from 3.50s to 4.10s. I am getting mixed opinions. I am narrowing the housing tomorrow and want to get my gears on the way so I can get front end under the bronco. THANK YOU VERY MUCH GUYS. TRAVIS

You will need the correct carrier for the 4.10s. The "break" is at 3.92. I'm not aware of a "thick" gear option for the high-pinion 44s.

They are not. The late model stuff (Jeep JK, Nissan, probably others) is totally different. You need the older stuff. Also you must use high pinion gears, the lows won't work.

Everyone here is right, they don't have a HP Dana 44 in "thick". You just need the low ratio carrier.

Yep everyone is right--- those thick cut HP 44 gears are for the JK and absolutely wont work. I still have wondered why the hell someone hasn't made a shim to bolt the ring gear to a 3 series carrier. Probably just not cost effective.

Probably so. An open carrier used to be $40 bucks new. Nowadays a strong and precisely machined ring spacer would probably cost double that unless they could make and sell many thousands of them.
And a used open carrier that someone has swapped out for an LS or Locker might be free for the taking. Of course, most of those are probably the same 3-series you don't need, but hey, worth keeping an eye open for anyway.

Also, if you're even remotely thinking of adding a traction diff, then there's no trouble with the decision of just buying a 4-series (means it fits the 4. ratios and above (even if not completely accurate, it's close enough)). Same cost and everything.
