Rebuilt my C4 transmission and am at the point of buying a new torque converter. Been looking at the Hughes Performance due to the fact that my rebuilder recommended them. Called and talked to the tech guy who recommended the F42XTM for my C4 but cant find any info anywhere on the net or any reviews. Have any of you used there converter in a 4x4, whether it would be this one or any other Hughes converter?

One with a 2500 Stall when I was a "GO FAST" Bronco. Not offroad friendly.
My last one was a TCI 2200 and I hated it, made lots of heat in the trans. Going with the Hughes 1800 this time. Thanks for the reply.

I heard about this company from Jay Leno, they build all of his custom converters. After doing some research and asking alot of questions, I was surprized to here about how many people run them and all of the good things said about them. I'm running a cookie cutter 2500st hughes right now, but will upgrade to a bad boy by this company, great people to deal with. Since I do'nt know how to give you the link here-----Precision of new hampton---I think you will go wow

i have a Hughes 2400 stall #42-25...... street driving and temperature of trans. is always an issue. I have an aluminum cooler with fan and plenty of airflow, too. Ineed to change to a lower stall before I would go offroad slow speed.
Interested in what they recommend to you...share some info from them here, Thanks.

When I talked to precision, I wanted to find out what costs were as to compare with tci, hughes, etc, with the things that i needed for my motor and tranny combo. I did talk to tci and hughes and got my first technical answers from them and learned. When talking to precision the conversation was definitly quite deeper about my needings, and the explanations of what they do, was much clearer in my mind.

Talked to tech support at Hughes, guy named Scott. He recommended there XTM series (extreme tow master) which is an 1800 stall. This is exactly what I was thinking I needed even before I spoke with Scott. Problem is that I can't find where anyone has commented on this particular converters performance. I know that Hughes makes an excellent converter just want some first hand experiences with the Hughes F42XTM that he recommend and so far I have come up with nothing. By the way, I also ran a higher stall converter previously and hated it. It is ridiculous how much heat a high stall can build in the tranny, ruined my C4.

Thought about going custom but just don't think my engine and trans combo would benefit from it. Talked to Jay at Broader Trans and he stated that I would not feel any difference between one of his customs and a off the shelf for around town driving. He said the only benefit would be longevity, they are built with stronger parts. I would probably shave some time off my 1/4 mile et's with a custom but that is not what I am after. The extra cost ($100 additional) is just not worth it in my opinion. By the way, don't over look Jay at Broader Transmission if you want a custom TC. He is a very knowledgable about Ford trans and torque converters and builds them in house. He is a Ford guy, and people who have used him swear by him.
