Okay guys/gals...I have a bit of a problem. I bought a 23 gallon EFI tank and I'm putting it in (second attempt, Sundays are my only day to work on the Turd). I have it up against the crossmember by the diff and up against the body in the same location, but the back is NOT lining up to anything...I've called the vendor and their part number was correct, but something isn't adding up.

Am I doing something wrong with the install?

If I'm thinking straight, the step in the front of the tank is for the crossmember, correct????

Please help, I'm at a stopping point again and BYOB is coming up and my time to work on this is dwindling fast...

How much body lift do you have? Did you get a tank designed for body lift? If you didn't you have to block the top of the tank down the equivalent of your body lift and slide the tank forward under the cross member.

I have a 2" body lift, and confirmed with the vendor that the part I ordered was correct...

If I block the tank down, my tank skid plate won't fit right...I'd like it to be tucked up like it's designed...

In the first picture: On the front facing side of the tank what is the measurement from the top of the pads welded to the top of the tank to the 90 degree bend that forms that "shelf". If that measurement is less than the distance from the bottom of the bed to the bottom of the rear cross member you will have to block the tank down.

Does this tank mount with a strap or with brackets to the frame?

They don't match...The bottom of the crossmember to the floor is 7 and the tank shelf to the bracket is 6...I was afraid that the shelf was for the crossmember...so I assume that the "1" after the "FBR" in the part number is for the body lift height...

Its mounted with a strap.

I don't want to block it...I'd prefer the tank I ordered...I can't blame the vendor, the part I ordered from them was correct.

Check to see if you have some brackets just under the floor mounted to the frame. I just installed a 23 gal. tank and could not get it to go up high enough. Had to remove these 4 brackets that the old tank rested up against. I think they were suppose to have a rubber pad on them to cushion the tank but the pads were not on mine.

Yep you got a tank for a 1" body lift. You would have to block it down 1" for it to fit properly. Being strap mounted you are better off getting the proper tank.

All that stuff is gone...

That tank dont look like its for a bodylift, I had to weld some 2in blocks on top of the tank pad so it would press on the bottom of my floor.

And you can see in pic 8 that the "foot" or stand-off is hanging out from under the body. That's supposed to be farther forward and hitting the bottom of the floor pan. Not hanging out past the body.
Having your shelf up inside behind the crossmember would explain that.

It may just be that I'm just a temporary idiot ;D I DO have blonde roots. %) (it's been known to happen once or twice :D )

But, I think the tank is wrong. Conversations with the vendor have gone REALLY well (even made me laugh after a very frustrating weekend, which goes a LONG way with me). I see no need to toss the vendor under the bus, they never saw the product, if it's wrong they wouldn't have known anyway. Top notch service as far as I'm concerned, even if they can't do anything. Calls were returned promptly, the issue was handled in a personal manner, like it really mattered to them that something was wrong.

They have a customer for life as far as I'm concerned...

Once everything is settled would you post up the vendor if you don't mind. If they do right by you it's another check on the list for us guys that spend their money where the service is at. If not, I know where the bus is parked. ;D J/K.

I have no problem with that at all, but to be fair to them I'll ask if they don't mind first...They've done right by me already. I bought the tank 4 months ago, not a drop of fuel has been inside. It's partly my fault for not installing it when I got it, but I wanted to wait until I had all my parts assembled before I took the plunge in the Exploder EFI install...The customer service has been awesome. Personal attention, quick replies, I couldn't ask for more...I can assure you that their parts will be install on both of my Bronco's - without question, regardless of the outcome of this somewhat small fiasco...

I have a 2" body lift on my truck with the same tank. I drilled the center of the 4 tabs and bolted 2" urethane bump stops. No rattle and it presses tight against the body.

one last thing, the fuel filler inlet and vent lines don't line up with the tank in the pic above, they should even though the up/down is not right.
