• Be EXTREMELY cautious if someone offers to buy your Bronco for more than your asking price and sight unseen. ESPECIALLY if the buyer is overseas. It's probably a scam.

CO Kicking myself every day

I made this same post back in 2018, but fell on some difficult times and didn't end up having the means. Being in a better position now, I'm posting again hoping it falls on the right ears (or eyes):

I joined this forum in 2003, just after I bought my very first car - a 1971 Ford Bronco Ranger. I was 15 years old. I had saved up from working at the local Six Flags amusement park for $5.50 an hour and bought it on my own, rusted out, but running for $2750. As soon as I turned 16 and got my license, it was my daily driver. A little elbow grease and help from dad gave it a face lift, and we sold it a year or so later to buy my second car - a 1973 Ford Bronco Sport for $6500 in near perfect condition. Albeit, missing some creature comforts like power steering and brakes, but it was perfect to me.

Are you catching a theme here?

I'm now 35 years old, and ever since I was a kid, my dream car has always been, and always will be the Early Ford Bronco. But as my title might suggest, I've been without one for quite some time, and kicking myself every day for selling the ones I've had. The reasons are justifiable, and helping to dig my parents out of debt was worth it in the end, but could I have found other ways? I only keep my sanity by telling myself no.

If you've read this far, thanks for sticking with me here.

Maybe you are in, or have been in a similar position. The problem now, of course, is that everyone seems to want one. What used to be a niche vehicle that you could pick up at a reasonable price, is now a $100k+ car for the 1%, or a rust bucket, hardly running project fetching 25k+ from people who just discovered what we've always known was the epitome of cool. Those of you who've held on, like I should have, are probably grinning ear to ear that the truck you bought for $5000 and been slowly tinkering with for 20 years is now worth $50,000 or more. But I digress...

So my "wanted ad" is this:

I am looking to fill the void that has been there since I was a kid, building these cars with my dad, who is now approaching his 80s. I want to find another Bronco for a reasonable price that I can surprise him with. Something that (likely in my price range) needs a little work, but nothing too crazy, that he and I can spend weekends working on again together. For the right project and price, maybe I'll have to outsource the bigger issues, but ultimately this is something I want to share with him again.

Ideally I'd be looking for something with NO rust, power steering, power disc brakes, and some more modern suspension. EFI a plus, hard top and doors included, bushings and rubber on the newer end, wiring in good order (or new). I know I can't be picky because I don't have a ton to offer, and to be completely honest, I still find it hard to wrap my head around the prices these are bringing, despite my best efforts in the current market. But if there is someone out there who can empathize and/or relate to my story, and has a good running, driving Bronco without any major issues willing to work with my budget, I'd love to talk to you. Seriously. I also have some potential trades, and willing to travel for the right one.

Thank you for reading :)

Best of luck, they are still out there. The key is to have "cash in hand" and a trailer ready to go if possible. I am in TX and will gladly keep an eye out for you.

Thank you so much. Any help is greatly appreciated. I know they're out there, but finding a decent example in my budget has become more and more difficult. I do have the cash in hand, but no trailer, so either a driver, or shipping are about my only options.

You are not alone. Prices are killing it for those of us that like them but aren't looking to make money on 'em.

Like previously mentioned, have money in hand and you can find something.

Probably worth posting your price range. wanting NO rust and lots of options you need to be realistic.
Trying very hard to be realistic, but as mentioned below, I'm not here to flip and make money so I do struggle with current valuation from that perspective. Once I get my hands on the right one to build, it'll be with us forever. That said, I'd love to find a driving "project" under 30k...I'd pay slightly more for something further along.

You're looking at the right time, Broncos are getting soft and prices are coming down, I have no doubt you'll find something.

I hear you (read your story)and maybe have something you'd be interested in.
I'm just starting the process of liquidating my fathers assets because he's in nursing home.
Anyway...
1972 bronco (one owner)
I can't figure out how to post pictures...
