I have more questions than answers.
Glad the herd is together.

You guys are running a great product and mods test bed. If you haven't already it would be great to get some feed back as to what has worked and what you wouldn't do again. With the length of run and the different setups some comparison would be great. Maybe you have been discussing this along the way already. Must easier to get these thoughts while you are all together.

Great pictures, keep them coming.

I'm pretty much speechless at this point of the thread. Looks like a incredible trip!

Mark

if only I had faith in mine to make it that many miles, I'd sign up right now for next year's trip

The herd is making good time heading across the peninsula toward the Pacific one last time to spend the night in Guerro Negro I believe. Tomorrow they will head back to the Sea of Cortez and enjoy their last night in Baja in beautiful San Felipe.

Making our way North, headed to San Felipe tomorrow. This herd has gotten their groove on, and the 11 Broncos are rolling strong!

It's been great that there are so few carnage photos!

Still, looking forward to that little (hopefully very short) list of things that went bump in the night and fell off in the day though.;D
These past few months must have been spent with some pretty good preparation for a long trip
I'm sure we'll hear a mileage total at the end too? Both in Mexico for the herd, and overall to see who traveled the farthest.
Driven and hauled...

Mine is... driveshaft-broken, blown tire, fried battery, small carb issue, lots of little bolts rattling. Mine probably had the most issues, but with this group of experts, nothing that wasn't able to be swapped/fixed on the trail. This group is amazing. None of the squabbles you'd expect when travelling with a huge number of people through some very remote and challenging country. Scott deserves a huge thank you for putting this all together and seeing us safely to each destination. My daughter wants to move to Loreto, after scuba diving with the seal colony, she is hooked. Gotta go now, breakfast, then of to visit Coco.

The Herd just arrived at the turn-off at the Hwy 5/Hwy 1, to head N/E towards Coco's Corner/San Felipe. About 25 miles or so of dirt, then it's paved all the way to the border!

Hopefully Coco is around for a nice cold cerveza, then if they can wait to eat until they get to Alfonsina's there's some great food there. There's a Pemex there as well, and I'm sure the pony's will be thirsty!

Who spent the most time at the back of the pack and gets the dusty butt award. I hate going down dusty trails and first hitting speed on pavement. You guys will leave a dust trail for miles.

Well, the herd made it to San Felipe! It didn't look like there were any unnecessary stops today, so I hope all are safe and Broncos are in good shape. They passed up the giant saguaros so either it was closed or they were eager to get in town and grab a cold cerveza after a lot of miles today. I hope they go straight to the Malecon and post a group shot, that would be awesome.

Border crossing tomorrow, then back to Yuma where most of the herd splits up to head their separate directions.

They should have good internet tonight, so I expect we'll see some pretty cool updates.

A few stopped for the giant cactus, but the Purtocitas Pemex was closed so we had a few running on fumes and kept rolling. I went with that group just in case. Made cocos, and have beautiful accommodations here in San Felipe. We did have one ride the trailer, but nothing big. Can’t believe we’ve already done nearly 2,400 Baja miles on these old trucks!

Very cool! I was wondering why you past the Pemex down by Alfonsinas. You never know!
It seems to go so fast once you're headed north

Well, as we approach the conclusion of this awesome adventure I thought I would offer some input.

First, what an amazing opportunity ! It wouldn’t have been possible without all the effort and sweating of every detail. Scott Barnes and the support crew he put together did an outstanding job. Thank you so much Scott !

We had a great mix of people and types of rigs. From a nearly stock Stroppe to highly modified drivetrains. The question about which ones fared the best is interesting........along the way, .we were having some fun discussions and friendly rivalry between some of the guys who ran nearly trouble free.

As an example, Jim has a 289 with a 2 barrel carb and a manual transmission while I have a 351 with OBDII Explorer EFI and a 4R70w trans. Both rigs did very well in the trip. My only issue (so far) was an aftermarket relay that overheated disabling the fuel pump. We replaced it with a spare Ford OEM one pulled at a junkyard and we’re back on the road in less than 5 minutes.

Jim had a loose wiring connection in the charging system that he caught and fixed before his un-charged battery had the chance to let him down on the trail. His manual transmission paid off big time as Jimmy didn’t log a single minute of “down time”.

Meanwhile, Dave and Sandy’s nearly stock Stroppe completed the trip with ease. They did lose one front shock which was original to the vehicle. How impressive is that !

The biggest thing in terms of rig reliability came down to (1) knowing your rig intimately and (2) how well you prepped it for the trip.

Personally, I expected to have more issues with my rig and am absolutely ecstatic that I didn’t. I attribute this to all the prep work myself and Phil (Viperwolf1) did before the trip. We spent several weekends proactively rebuilding or replacing stuff “just in case” so we could enjoy the trip. I can’t thank him enough for his efforts and friendship. Thank you Phil !

Baja will beat a reliable street rig to death quickly. Luckily for us, this group included talented people who were willing to help others and had heeded Scott’s sage advise to be flexible and open to changing based on circumstances. Thanks so much to everyone who helped the group !

In terms of pictures and videos, all I can say is just wait to see what gets posted in the next couple of days. We got some amazing video of the herd running at speed on the dirt “roads”.

Viva La Baja !

Rox, That's the kind of stuff I was wondering about. Plus things like which suspensions were giving the best ride. Of course you would have to be swapping passengers for some of that. But may see thru the dust the ones that float and ones that don't.

As you mentioned the things you guys teased each other about.

Glad you had a fun and safe trip.
