I agree it did come out nice I wonder if you took a wire wheel on a die grinder and start with a small spot and lightly go over it and see what happens.

Now we’re talking! And by all means please add these pictures to that other thread where we were discussing this not long ago.
If you haven’t already that is.

Finally, someone had the guts to do this. Looks awesome. If you want to experiment, I'd try a scotch brite pad first or maybe a sanding sponge (or whatever they are called).

I was thinking it might be best to do it right after spraying while it’s still not quite cured. Could be messy, but it seems like if it works it would be great.
Then again, yours looks fantastic in that picture already!

I did try that that sem paint dries to fast and it was messy. I’m gonna see if I can block sand it with the floor board as a hard surface behind it. It was hard to sand on the pallet on the stand

Even though I think an original mat has a little more of the black peaks and highlights showing, I think yours looks really really good.

This looks great. I’ve been wanting to do one myself. Here’s an original for reference. From the original ones I’ve seen they literally look like burlap. No black. It’s a combination of light and medium parchment which is why I think the reproducers can’t quite nail down the process of making the parchment reproduction. Solid colors like black or painting one any other color are doable. Doing the contrast is a whole different animal. Maybe doing light parchment first then come back with an airbrush with the other color and hit the valleys lightly with the darker color?? I don’t know.
