Back in the saddle again! After a brief hiatus, gonna git myself back to Bronco building and bolting, and painting, and adjusting and yada, yada, yada. The first portion of my build is here. https://classicbroncos.com/forums/threads/buck-n-a-bronco.286019/ Named this portion Pilgrim's Progress in honor of John Wayne, who rode broncos and often said, "Ya dun good, pilgrim," and because his picture hangs in the executive bathroom in my barn. Oh, and because it's high time to make some progress.

Yeah, me too, Mark! Funny how some time away can get me energized, must be that 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder' thing. And that would also explain why my lovely bride keeps telling me to go away! Sanded off the crappy paint job I did yesterday and tried it again today. With the price of paint being what it is, I do not want to make that a habit. This time was a fair chunk better. Progress.

INTERESTING SIDE NOTE (if you have a really, really dull life): I am slowly picking up on the tack coat/wet coat method of spraying base color. I gotta get this right more often with the crazy price of paint. I thought I had applied a good enough wet coat, and the gun was empty, so I cleaned the gun and inspected my work. No, no, no, not good enuff! Mixed another batch and sprayed another wet coat. Much better coverage! A little more money, a little more time, but a much superior job! Hopefully, no more 'Don't have time to do it right, but plenty of time to do it over'.

Remember the old pharse 'Watching paint dry'? Well, I wasn't doing that. Remember the 'Progress' part of the thread title? That's what I was doing. Couple days ago, while waiting for paint (or bondo or hy-build ) to dry, I painted the passenger side of the doors with the single stage I had left over from the engine compartment.

A day or so later, I decided to take a crack at the outside of the doors. First some gauging stuff to see where filler might be needed.

Thanks Ken! And like the guy in the Ginzu knife commercial would say, "But wait, there's more!" Two more, in fact - Ford Gingerale and a 50/50 blend of Gingerale and White Gold and eleven secret herbs and spices (jk). Got the Gingerale sprayed this morning.

I had to redo the White Gold on the top of the doors due to some scratches that would have been visible through the clear. Turned out much better the second time

Made progress all the way through the clear coat - that did NOT go as well as it might have. Orange peel, I think. I'll try some color sanding ala Ken tomorrow. 20221205_170920.jpg 20221205_170350.jpg

Well, heck! I made a stoopid, brain-fart, time & money sucking mistake!!! That orange peel appearring stuff was my mistake - I put the wrong size tip in for clearcoat. So I sanded it all off AGAIN. Gonna tryagain tomorrow. Oh, and I decided to post less, like when something is done and painted, not every single paint job becausr of a bone-headed, beginner goof-up. In the meantime....... Intermission.

Thanks Mark! There are more than enough flubs when viewed up close and personal, but I am following your wise counsel to keep the ball rolling. Up next are the fenders, grill and tailgate. Once again, grab some popcorn......
