PSC External Reservoir Mounting Options

I am adding ram assist to my rig and wanted to see where others are mounting their external reservoir. I should mention that I have the Mustang 5.0 serpentine system with the Saginaw P/S bracket from an Econoline van instead of the typical explorer setup. I was thinking about the core support or possibly the drivers side inner fender apron where the spare battery battery would be. I’ve seen others mount to the firewall but feel like the resistance created by the extra length of hose might become an issue. If anyone has any insight or even better pics I’d certainly appreciate it! Thanks in advance!

The closer to the pump, the better, otherwise in serious off-camber situations, you can starve the pump, and shorter return lines are generally better. Do you have a picture of your current situation under the hood?

I'm going to need to do something with mine when I add the hydro, but I'm not there yet, so I'll be interested in seeing what you do. When I help my brother with his on a Vortec powered Toyota, there was a nice spot off the A/C compressor pump bracket to use after we made a little bracket to tie into those mounting points.

The reservoir is gravity feed to the pump.
You need to take uphill and downhill and side hill into account when planning (you would not plan on a ram if not going off-road).
You can mount it higher in the firewall than on the core support since the hood slopes down to the front.

Shorter hoses are nice, but higher is still better yet.

Thanks for the replies. I don’t have a Flickr account or anything similar setup yet so I can’t post any pictures at the moment but here is a link I found of my exact serpentine setup (Smog delete and AC delete pulley on top of power steering bracket)

The one in the picture above still has the Ford power steering setup but the E150 power steering bracket I have to convert to a Saginaw pump is nearly identical so I am able to retain my current serpentine setup and keep the power steering pump mounted as low as possible. Ideally, I would like to fab up something very similar to the explorer setup, which has the reservoir located directly above the power steering pump. This would obviously provide the highest, shortest route to the pump but I’m not sure if anyone has fabricated a bracket for my serpentine setup. If so, how much body lift did it require? I have already modified my hood to clear some of the EFI components (TFI distributor, EGR, etc.) and will be adding a WH 1” body lift but I’m not sure that would provide the clearance I would need? If not the firewall may be my best option.

probably not helpful... at all. I have a 351w with explorer front dress, custom york mount and random power steering reservoir, 2"BL and hydro assist. It works but it's on the small side with the ram mounted. I'm thinking of going to the PSC and mounting it in the same location.

I obviously had convenient tubing to mount mine to, but I used a 1 gallon morosso coolant catch can. For the return at the top on the side I welded in a 6an male bung and a 12an male bung on the bottom. Fluid in the bottom is about flush or just below the pump, but the top half the fluid is above the pump.

PSC recommends the inlet be shorter than 14" long. Higher doesn't help much when you have so much friction loss and if you are climbing a steep slope the reservoir won't be much higher if at all when going up a steep slope.

I mounted my reservoir's outlet 7" above my pump and only 9" away on the core support only 1" from the radiator tank.

When I swapped to the Exploder reservoir and pump a decade ago just about the top item on my "to-do" list was to get rid of the IMO, ugly plastic reservoir sticking up above the top of my engine and make it more efficient...
