OK, I am going with a super single 3" outlet, on a pretty stock 302, maybe build up as I go, should my dual inlets on the muffler be 2 1/4" or 2 1/2", i am running stock manifolds, but will eventually be putting headers on.

TIA

I went with 2(2.5") pipes from my headers into a y pipe...single 3" in muffler single 3" out muffler. might be a little excessive for a stock 5.0 but i loke the look of the 3" pipe, and its there when I upgrade my motor.

Thanks, that is all i needed, it might be excessive, but when i get the funds for headers, like you said, its already there

EDIT
Now I am only finding like 6 mufflers on Summit that are single 3" out, dual 2.5" in, can I mount a 3" in, dual 2.5" out backwards? I thought that is what I heard most were doing.

Yeah, the Magnaflows 2 X2.5" 3" outs can be run reverse...as you read the description on Summit Racing it says so. I believe this is the same Muffler being offered by BCB. Several others have reported thats the case at least. Good luck.

I Ran (2) 2.5" Dual Chamber Flowmasters (with Headers) And It Sounds Mean. Be Sure And Tell Your Installer To Tuck The Exhaust Up Into The Frame For A Nice Clean Look.

I believe this is the same one BCB sells. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MPE-12588&N=700+115&autoview=sku

From the measurements of the pic, this is the same one....although any of the others above would be sufficient...its more a space thing...and getting the most muffler that you can fit. To get the polished version just replace the second number in the PN for a 4...EX: 12588 vs 14588 is the same muffler, the 14588 is just the polished case version. HTH.

muffler

2.25 is plenty for the head pipes, and the muffler outlet really doesn't need to be any larger than 2.5.

Contrary to popular belief bigger isn't better. Especially with a 302 off road or around town.

Keep in mind most exhaust charts are set to address WOT operation. Most I have seen recommend a 2.5 single for less than 300HP.

Bigger costs more, is harder to route, and easier to get hung up. The jump from (2) 2.25 into one 2.5 to (2) 2.5 into 3 probably cost you low end torque without giving you any noticeable gains at WOT, where you will not be operating anyway.
