Well guys I am stuck. Im in the process of converting a new 408 to efi in my early bronco, so why not convert to serpentine set up, and while Im at add a saginaw style steering pump, and possibly adding hydro booster as well, but first I have to get past this. So after reading a bunch of threads on converting to saginaw style pump I was told i could use the same bracket as a 302. So the 302 and 351 brackets for the serpentine set up with saginaw style pump are the same, well, not so fast. After being told they are the same I had purchased one, $65 pump, bracket, and hoses shipped to my door. After trial fitting, the bottom of the pump bracket hits the top of the steering box and I only had one bolt in, the one closest to the center of the engine, any one else run in to this problem??? This bracket and pump was out of a '92 van.

I think what you heard about was the A-1 cardon pump # 206244,it had a half moon bracket and a longer shaft that was turned down to fit a stock ford pulley(it was a HD pump option at one time). But a million others before you have cleaned out all the stock of these pumps and what was $100 now if you can find one is more $200. If you google it you can see a picture of it and if like me I'am hopeing to find one in the wrecking yard or at the swap meet some day.

Can you provide details of the bracket? (Where you bought it? Part number?)

I have used the same bracket on both a 302 and 351. Mine came off of a '91 Ford Econoline van, which came from the factory with a 351, serpentine accessories, and saginaw pump.

The problem with using that bracket on an early Bronco with a 351 is that the bracket interferes with the steering box. It would most likely clear with a 302 since the 302 block is narrower. The solution is to use a grinder to grind off enough material from the backside of the bracket to clear your steering box. The bracket is pretty beefy and will still be more than strong enough even after you cut out the necessary material. I've been running mine that way for years with no problems.

The Cardone pump fits most all Fords from the 70's to 93 Mustangs to name a few. The Cardone pump will fit the stock 5.0 Mustang Serpentine power steering bracket. It sits up high and out of the way when you use the Mustang ac eliminator kit. I modified the Mustang bracket to get enough clearance for the Chevy dual return reservoir.

Like was said above. If you are using a van bracket, about 1/4" will have to be ground off the bottom corner of the bracket. Since it's made from aluminum, it's a piece of cake to file or grind it down.

Thanks for all the great feed back guys! After looking at it i may modify the rear of the bracket where it would bolt up to the head. Using the bolt closest to the center of the engine and piviting it upwards and trimming away the cast a bit and making a new outer mounting spots. I had thought about grinding the aluminum, but it still looks to close to get the fittings in the top of the box, I will keep you guys posted, thanks. I also have a part number on the bracket, f3ua3c511ba.

Well, after finding out the saginaw pumps came in the 95 f150, and I had that bracket laying around, I decided to use it and got a pump, I really wanted to run the big can with dule return lines for the hydro boost conversion, but as I have seen and read, the ones that have the single return line and are running hydro boost have no trouble at all, so I should be good to go, thanks.
